“Adam said that you wanted to see me once Sabina was started on her homework,” Reagan spoke as she walked into the empty space that Davenport had left a couple weeks ago. “It’s chilly in here.”
“Fall is starting to come on,” Nikita nodded her head up and down. “Mick will have to get the contractors to work quickly to make this place perfect for you.”
Reagan blinked and shook her head. “What?”
“I told Mick that he couldn’t put this off any longer. He’ll have to meet you and figure out what is needed so you can make this your place,” Nikita explained as she walked around and rubbed her elbows. “I had them gut out the bathroom that was put in. It was put in quickly and Davenport was always complaining about it. The shower was too small; the water pressure was not strong enough when we were using water in the main house…”
“I don’t need this,” Reagan’s voice cracked as she blinked back tears. This was too nice and she did not need it at all. “I’m fine with the room that I have.”
“You are welcome to stay there for now, Reagan, but you’ll need this space,” Nikita spoke as she looked at the woman who was such a good teacher for Sabina.
Reagan shook her head. “I’m fine sharing the space. I have a room. That’s all and you’ll need me around for Sabina.”
Nikita chuckled and shook her head. “You are with Sabina most of the day. You will need time away from her too.”
“I like it,” Reagan ran her hands to her throat and swallowed. “I don’t want this.”
Nikita stepped closer to Reagan and pulled her blonde hair to the side while studying this woman. “You are going to start making friends here. You’ll have us… but you’ll want to have the privacy... and some day you may decide to do what Davenport did.”
“You can see each other’s front doors,” Reagan deadpanned and Nikita chuckled while nodded her head. “I can’t deny that. But someday, you may still be Sabina’s teacher, but you may decide to move. That day will come sooner if you just stay in that room. We all need you to have this space.”
Reagan jerked and swallowed again. “Oh… I get it… that’s family space and you need it to be for family… I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to be getting into the family stuff… I can step away.”
“I didn’t say that,” Nikita reached out and touched Reagan’s elbow. Reagan sighed and she was confused. Nikita stroked her elbow and cleared her throat. “I guess I haven’t done a good job giving you this surprise.”
“I’m… confused…”
“You are part of our family now,” Nikita explained as she backed away. “I do big things for family members. And I want you to have this because you are going to want to date… and I do need for Sabina to see some space between you and her… and I wanted to do something really nice for you because you did drop what you were doing to come with us for Sabina.”
Reagan chuckled. “And you want Mick to design it? I don’t need a designer. I need a bed. A couch. A bathroom now that you tore it out… and a computer… that’s all.”
“A kitchen,” Nikita shook her head from side to side. “A closet. Furniture… maybe some windows because this isn’t going to give you any natural light since it used to be Michael’s lab space…”
Reagan found herself choked up. “You don’t need to do this.”
“We can talk this whole thing into circles for hours,” Nikita commented as she looked around. “Meet with Mick. Humor me. If you still hate the idea… at least give Mick some ideas on what he should do so this can get finished for when you might want to move out here.”
Reagan rubbed her hands against her elbows. “Sabina might not like this.”
“Sabina is a child,” Nikita pointed out as she moved towards the house and looked at Reagan. “Don’t worry about what you think my daughter may need. Think about what you need.”
