Nikita watched as Jason was setting up his laptop. She had asked him to come over and she was watching the clock because she needed to talk to him about this before Sabina got home from school. They were going to make some cookies today.
But this was very important.
“I need to know where you are on the Devil, Jason,” Nikita turned and looked out the window. She knew that Nat was losing a lot of sleep right now and that the media were just about to figure out all the parts that no one wanted them to figure out.
“You have a job to do as the Angel tonight,” Jason replied as he didn’t answer Nikita as his machine was still not fully up.
“It’s better that I step up and be the Angel... on my terms… and try to catch this asshole that is ruining good things,” Nikita turned her attention back to Jason, her eyes crystal blue with clear concern that doing the right thing was going to backfire.
“I can give you some examples of where the devil may occur if I know where the Angel is going tonight,” Jason replied as he started to type, not looking down but still looking at Nikita.
“Do I have to tell you?” Nikita inquired and Jason shrugged his shoulders. It was a slight game of chicken that they were playing right now. It was possible that Nikita stumbled onto something that no one else had.
But Jason had his suspicions, especially this time of year.
“That program for the gifts for the children of the troops… that had everything stolen…” Nikita revealed as she sat down. Jason nodded his head. “You are replacing the goods.”
“I found the presents… but the Angel isn’t just going to bring back what was lost,” Nikita declared and Jason smirked. “Yeah… I don’t know why people can’t tell the difference between the real Angel and those acting like the Angel. But I don’t know why tonight.”
“Because someone else will do it as the Angel sooner than later,” Nikita explained as she knew that this would happen. “Everyone has to be thinking it… the media is practically asking why the Angel hasn’t fixed it yet. I’m more concerned that someone is going to be trying to catch the Angel in action…”
“But Michael is going to be helping with that,” Jason looked up at Nikita as she shrugged her shoulders slightly. “A dry run for hopefully tomorrow night’s work.”
“I’m not going to guarantee anything, Nikita,” Jason warned as he shook his head from side to side. He turned the computer around and sighed. “But… I found the link between the people… the one that I didn’t think would be found…”
“Which points to one person doing these acts…”
Jason nodded his head up and down slightly. “It’s an obscure blog… about people who suck. Not because they did anything really bad. Just a list of people who have been reported as sucking because of something that they did to someone else…”
Nikita looked at the screen and looked back at Jason. “The webmaster?”
“Physically unable… she is still in high school and has been on the blog working on other posts as the devil is doing his deed,” Jason replied back as he had checked into that first thing. “She takes in submissions… just edits the grammar and posts… so I am going thru the visitors now… but it’s tedious.”
“Go faster,” Nikita retorted as she pushed away from the table. “The Angel on the blog?”
“No,” Jason shook his head. “And in some twisted way… it’s like the devil… is trying to rid the sucky people… but they are still good people… and there are a good bit of people in this area on this list.”
“Anyone we know?”
“Yes,” Jason nodded his head up and down. He turned the computer around and clicked a few things before turning it back for Nikita to see Nat’s picture on the screen. “There are a lot of cops on here, Nikita.”
Nikita stood up and paced about. Jason frowned as he went back to work. Nikita continued to pace and he sighed. “Sabina’s going to be home soon.”
“That’s why I’m pacing now.”
Jason nodded his head and pulled the laptop lid down. “What if I can’t narrow it down for you, Nikita? I just found this during morning… and it might not even be where the person is finding the people…”
“I know,” Nikita rasped as the front door opened. Nikita rubbed her hands across her face and was smiling as Sabina jumped into the air. “I can’t wait to make cookies… I’ve been thinking about them all day!”
“Well, Jason is going to stay and supervise us… is that ok?” Nikita inquired as she looked at Jason as he forced a smile out. He knew that he better have something more by this time tomorrow.
The clock was clicking.
