The ceremony wasn’t going to be too long now and Michael stepped out of the room and into the hallway while Nikita got dressed. She had protested Ellie and Beatrice kicking Michael out while she got dressed. He had picked the dress and Nikita was walking down the aisle with him. There was no reason for Michael not to help her into the dress, but the two women won and Michael was pleased with that.
He knew that even though he saw the dress before, seeing it today on Nikita, it would be like nothing he saw before.
Nikita hadn’t been pleased and she had pointed out that she had to help Michael with his tie, but Michael only kissed Nikita’s cheek and eased out of the room. He wouldn’t be gone long, but there was one thing that he had plans on handling while he waited for Nikita to get dressed.
He heard the chatter of the guests, not that anyone wasn’t really known by this small group at this small rustic setting that normally was a mess hall in the summer for a day camp. Michael turned the corner and Sabina tossed her head back and started to strut towards him. Adam shook his head sadly. “Sabina… I think that is over doing it.”
“I am going to be a super model today,” Sabina announced and Adam groaned. Michael smiled gently as it was clear that his son had been trying to do what he was about to do.
Michael glanced towards Adam as he noticed his father. Michael knew that the days had been numbered for Gretchen and Adam a long time ago, after Adam had made up with Lisa for what had happened to him after the soccer season. It wasn’t going to be an easy road for Adam. Michael was sure that there were going to be some storms because his son wasn’t about to admit what was truly going on between himself and Lisa. But that wasn’t something to worry about today and it was clear that Adam’s only worries right now were on Sabina.
Before Michael could call out to his daughter, she saw him. “Daddy, daddy!”
Michael squatted as to pick up Sabina as she was already in her pretty dress. It hadn’t been wait Nikita had first selected for her. Nikita had picked out a light pink dress that had rose details. Michael had liked that dress too, but Sabina found this one with all these small yellow and white daisies on it and actually started to cry when they told her that she couldn’t try it on.
They may have been Section One operatives, but that didn’t matter when their daughter started to cry.
After she tried the dress on and fell in love with it, Nikita relented. Michael had been sad about it because it didn’t match the other things picked up and Michael knew how much Nikita had been willing to change because of Sabina. In fact, at first, there wasn’t going to be any sort of procession. It was just going to be Michael and Nikita walking into the room together, but Sabina said that they had to walk down the aisle so she could lead.
But enough was enough right now. Michael kissed his daughter and looked at Walter and tilted his head to the side. “Not long… finishing touches.”
“So she is ok?” Walter asked and Michael smiled. Nikita was so ready for this that she wasn’t nervous at all.
“Daddy… you look all handsome… so dressed up,” Sabina spoke as she reached out and fussed with his hair and then pressed her hand against his tie.
“You look beautiful too, Sabina,” Michael relied as he knew that there was more behind those words that Sabina had just said. It was easy to read his daughter at this age. She knew that he was going to ask her to change the walk and she was trying to avoid the conversion. “Come on… let’s have some father daughter time.”
“Nah,” Sabina shook her head from side to side. “Mommy is ready for you.”
“Not quite yet,” Michael pointed out while he opened the door with his foot and stepped outside to a bench. He sat down and Sabina immediately sprung to her feet. “You should be getting married…”
“We have to talk,” Michael looked as Sabina spun around in a circle. She looked up at him and tilted her head to the side while shrugging her shoulder; the look was classic Sabina trying to look very cute and very innocent. “I wanted to talk to you about how you are going to walk down the aisle.”
“Mom said I could walk down the aisle however I want too!” Sabina defended herself quickly as she moved away and sashayed back towards Michael and then posed. “I think this is good.”
Michael cleared his throat as Sabina turned and walked away in the same manner.”Sabina… who is getting married today?”
“You and mom, of course,” Sabina deadpanned and Michael nodded his head up and down. “Your mother is getting married… and I know that she wants you to be happy… but shouldn’t she be the center of attention today?”
Sabina thought about it and then snapped her fingers. “I should go and show her how to walk!”
Michael reached out and took his daughter’s arm to stop her from leaving. She sighed and sat down on the bench with her dad. “She said that I could…”
“I know,” Michael nodded his head up and down. “She wants everyone to be happy… but sometimes that means that the other person has to stop and think about what will make your mom happy.”
Sabina groaned as she dropped her chin down into her hands. “But I want to stand out.”
“Is it your day?” Michael inquired and he shook his head as Sabina did the same. “Maybe you can leave the model walking for later…”
“When we dance?” Sabina asked and Michael swallowed hard. He wasn’t sure how much dancing there really would be. “Later today… after the ceremony and after dinner.”
Sabina stood up and stuck her hand out. “I will make the deal, Dad.”
Michael shook Sabina’s hand and she pulled away to stand up straight. She walked forward like she normally would walk. She stopped and looked at her dad. “Like that?”
“Exactly,” Michael smiled and nodded his head.
Sabina walked back towards Michael and smiled. “That’s so much easier.”
Michael wanted to roll his eyes at that statement. OF course it was easier, but telling Sabina that would have done no good.
