My Great Grandfather Harris lived in Hornell in the 40s and 50s. He was in his 70s when he died. He and his wife had a son when he was 71, my great uncle. He would be in his mid 50's now. I remember a trip to Hornell on the train when I was 8 years old. My G Grandfather Harris worked for the railroad. My step grandmother (mother of my great uncle) worked at the Canada Dry bottling plant. We visted the Indian Mounds, and I have a picture of myself in front of an Indian Lodge, seems like there was a statue of an indian maiden. There used to be a round drive-in that sold Hires root beer in frosted mugs. I visted in Hornell when I was 8 and again when I was 13 (to meet our Great Uncle who was then, 3 or 4). My Grandfather lived in a house with a front porch that looked across at a horse pasture. His neighbor had a Percheron. I remember the trip with great fondness. I expect my Grandfather is buried there - he died in his late 70s. He was a big man, he drove a Cadillac. I don't know how big Hornell was then, or is now, but I wondered if anyone remembered him.
