Hi ladies...I received an email today that very politely asked why we were raising the entry fee? Since I am very open and forthright about how the business is run, I am sharing my answer with everyone, in case y'all are wondering that same thing.

For one thing, it appears I will have a dentist sponsoring some nice prizes (possibly whitening or even veneers? ...we're working it out! ) I am finalizing that, he is mailing a packet. This individual has done work for MANY Miss USA state queens. It would be AWESOME to secure this opportunity and give our girls another edge at nationals.

The Galaxy national entry fee is $1050 now. I think everyone's aware it keeps going up as the pageant lengthens and prizes are added. It's a LOT bigger than when I did it!

Also, I hope to provide the winner's with their required "photo shoot" swimsuits as part of the prize package. That alone is an extra $300 expense. If I had the notice (I learned this requirement 2wks or so ago), I would have provided this. I am trying to minimize our winner's last minute expenses. The only thing I cannot provide is photos, and everyone's very individual on that.

Our venue will be more expensive next year as the location was too small without an additional dressing room, which we needed. I want to open it up to BOTH ballrooms so more people can attend and sit comfortably. Plus more rehearsal room!

Also, we're INCLUDING the full page ad into the fee. It will make it easier for me to format, to give you guys more space and prevent some of the snafus I faced this year splitting up pages so much. So when you compare $495 plus $40 ad in 2004 vs $595, ad included, in 2005--it's only a $60 increase. Your $50 application fee is still counted TOWARDS not separate, your total. And the returning girls will not even have to absorb that much of it.

The cost increase will not affect the 2004 contestants, as they are all receiving a compensatory discount ($100 off....I am extending that to our 3rd/4th runners up also) to return. One of the benefits they got for being in it our very first year. I think that should be recognized.

Last but not least, I intend to make a profit this coming year. It doesn't have to be enough to quit my day job yet, but we broke even within $50 this year. Good for a 1st year pageant, definitely, but not exactly the return I'm looking for for an entire year of planning! And that's what's going into it, even now. We are trying to secure a March date at the same hotel this coming week.

Hope this helps explain it! I think you will all be delighted with the changes & expansion.

Sounds very reasonable! For anyone in doubt, I love the 'all inclusive'; having a daughter who competes, I can tell you there are usually many little 'extras' that end up bumping up the $$ much more than the initial fees. AD Page, the lunch...I would personally much rather pay the little extra and have it included. Much easier! It's great to take the first year and build on it and seek improvements...that's what will ensure this pageant is still here 10 yrs from now! Way to go Autumn!
