Now that our numbers are locked down, it's time to post the things to remember for next weekend. If you have any last minute things, you can email or call me. I will not be going out of town on the 11th as previously planned as this flu has cancelled any trips for me for awhile. :( Ok, onto updates:
1.) I will need SIX 3-hole punched copies of your bio, brought to the pageant. 5 for judges, one for my emcee (Darlene) so she can easily talk about you while you do your gown walk. Don't worry about the year at the top of the bio sheets, the judges are looking at YOUR information. We'll redo for nationals should you win. There will be no discussion off your bio during fashion as this is a loud, high energy portion and modeling and outfit will be judged not only for the pageant, but for the Supermodel Award.
2.) The Supermodel Award WILL be bumped. This is my decision and it's final. This meaning the lady with the highest overall fashion score who does NOT win a state crown will be crowned our Supermodel. Obviously we will crown her last, after state queens, so that the surprise is not ruined as to who won state. This way I can give an extra title to a contestant who does a superior performance and I know all of the young ladies competing this year are good sports and will not begrudge our winner that opportunity. So if you do not win state, do NOT immediately leave because you could still win this title. I do want pics of my contestants and queens to feature all that you ladies have done to prepare & compete.
3.) Opening number is NOT judged. You will have 30 sec or less to introduce yourself in your black outfit and local banner, as follows:
Jr Miss: School/grade level, name and area title
Teen: School/grade level, name, and local title
Miss: Profession or school attended, name & local title
Mrs: Their Husband's name, children if they would like to mention them, and local title.
With the Mrs. I don't feel career is as important to mention onstage as the family. Plus some are homemakers and that's equally a career too. If they want to mention it on their bio, the judges will ask during interview.
4.) This year as we have about the same contestant numbers as before, we will have to announce *someone* as the 3rd runner up of 4 in one division, etc....there's no way to "creatively hide" placement in a pageant with smaller divisions. Though I hate announcing someone as placing so called "last" in a division, it is the reality of the matter until we start getting 5-6 or more per division (and $2 a gallon gas isn't helping that).
Therefore, I have ordered lovely marble based trophies for *EVERY* contestant engraved with her placement and the pageant year, etc and ALL of our contestants will receive gift bags as runners up. That is the UP side of small numbers. No one will go home empty handed and all of you will receive a discount for 2006.
Also, you all know I give scores, so it does not take a rocket surgeon to figure out who placed where if you compare notes. I figure it is better to be up front from the beginning. If judges write notes (and mine usually do! My state gals will confirm that!), those will go to you with the scores 2 weeks later. Bring a prepaid, preaddressed envelope to the pageant for this purpose. The queens overall score will be given out for comparison by division so you can see how you lined up against her. Last year, two divisions were determined by 5 points or less!
5.) I will be staggering the interview times a bit more this year, so the Mrs. won't be waiting around an hour like they were last year. So Teens will go 1st, then about 15 minutes later will be Miss and another 15 minutes or so will be lineup for Mrs. This will allow a little less waiting time so everyone can come down and back up in an orderly manner.
6.) I will be checking in around 3-4pm, if anyone WANTS TO EAT TOGETHER THAT NIGHT, I'm game with getting together a group. I can make reservations beforehand but I need an idea of numbers. If not, we'll all get in the car(s) and find a place like last year. Email me or post if you want to make a group "eat" of it and get to know one another more. It was a lot of fun last year for those who participated.
That's all for now. If you have questions, post here and I will do my best to help you!
