Subject: to be or not to be a squirrel

To be and not to be …A Squirrel

Climbed a tree in the Midnight Park, wanted
to see the world from a squirrel's perspective.
Astride a solid branch. I was a hero in a western
movie, lit cigar and was seen by an officer, who
began shouting attracting a crowd of drunks.
A pointed finger, look a man up a tree, big deal.
A fire engine came, a burly chap, on a ladder,
in a yellow helmet, tried to entice me down, he
smiled encouragingly and I thought that he was
going to offer me a chocolate bar. Didn't budge,
for once in my life I had an audience. The officer,
who had first spotted, me came climbing up, sat
on a branch beside me, but when he looked down
he got an attack of vertigo and dropped his gun,
but for the fireman and I he would have fallen off.
Back on the ground the sergeant decided not to
arrest me, couldn't find anything about climbing
of trees in his rule book, but I had to promise that
if I ever felt the urge to I had to find a proper forest
out of town…In the woods? Without an audience
He must be joking.
