Subject: the old town

In The Old Town

God lives in our street came here
When the town was a green field
And sheep grazed in harmony.
Lived in a cabin which was torn
Down to give way to progress,
And moved into a basement flat.
A new progress has overtaken
Our street, which are full of ugly
Flats with a failing plumbing
System and there is talk of tearing
Them down to give way to new,
Ultra modern ones, none of us
Can afford to pay the rent for.
God wears a suit bought in 1925
It still looks new, so he must know
A trick or two. He's getting frail now,
Walks with a stick, eyes dimmed by
Age, lost of his authority, ignored
By the world and never visited by his
Only son�It's bad enough getting
Old, but when you are God it must
Be hell.
