Author: William Poe
Subject: Of Flesh and Fodder

Coult it not be
We each have some
Royalty within ourselves?
Have we not,
Surely, ate of a
Fish who but dines
Upon a worm who
Did, by natural hunger,
Eat of a kingly meal;
Or, perhaps, feasted
Upon a beast who
Chomped at the
Delicate bone of
A queen's plate?
We cannot, then,
Be so sure of
A single person's
Right by royal birthing,
For a beggar
May have more of
Royal stock in him
Than a single prince.
Death's tastes are
Not, necessarily, of
Poor quality;
Nor do they favor
The richer and more
Extravagant
Flavors of Life.
So, come, let us
Dine upon the
Chops of a peasant
And discover, possibly,
What meager kingdom
We may inherit.
