A not of caution about the gymn programs that move you from machine to machine. These are mostly strength training machines, meaning they build your muscles by using resistance. In the long term this is good for your body since by building more muscle you rev up your metabilism and burn more fat.

The down side for weight loss is that muscles weighs more than fat, so your weight loss will slow. Also, as you bulk up, your muscles get bigger beneath the existing fat, ie you may get thicker. Unfortunately, for most of us, the additional fat that your muscles will burn is not enough to offset the additional bulk of those muscles.

My advice is to do high reps (at least twenty per set) with low weights and lots of aerobic training. This will achieve the same effect of toning & strengthening the muscles and burning carbs, without the bulk.
