Subject: Welcome to the new message board
Due to Inside The Webs announcement that they will be shutting down all message boards as of March 5, I have moved the message forum here, you will see that this works pretty much the same as the old one. Please feel free to start posting here, the old board is still available for reading only, so please do not post there. Thanks!!!

Hi, my name is Georgia and I am a 55 year old widow from
akron now but use to be from Youngstown, I use to go to
Idora Park when I was a child and teenager, and remember so
many nights at the record hops. I really cried when I heard
in 84 or 85 that the park had caught on fire. I loved Idora
and have so many memories there. I remember being in love
with the guy who ran the merry-go-round and would go past him
every night about 100 times just to look at him. lol. Well
Please e-mail me if anyone remembers me. I walked with a limp
and lived on Princeton ave and hung out at the choo choo diner.

The losing of Idora Park was a tragedy. For most everyone who lived in the Youngstown area part of growing up was at the Park. I remember oh so well the vinegar fries, Jackrabbit, Wildcat, Penny Arcade, Bumper Cars, Space Ship, and going annually with the family to see the softball game between local celebrities against "The King and His Court". Memories that will live on forever. I grew up on the Southside on Powersway but then the Air Force and now my job has kept me in Texas. I wouldn't trade the days of growing up in Youngstown for anything. Again, thanks for the memories..........

I MUST SAY THAT LETTING THAT HAPPEN TO THE BALLROOM IS A TOTAL OUTRAGE! They have all this cash for a convention center, why not find money to restore Idora? Why wasnt that churh group that owned it responsiable for up keep? Why did they not recieve any fines??? HOW EVERYONE JUST LET THIS HAPPEN ITS SICK! I FEEL SOO SAD THAT THIS IS THE WAY YOUNGSTOWN IS. IT IS NOTHING BUT A TOWN WITH NO CLASS OR THOUGHT FOR BEAUTY. IN FACT IT IS A BIG GARBAGE DUMP WITH A FEW MALLS SURROUNDING IT. I hope that someone can do something to at least save the JACK RABBIT. THANK YOU, WENDY

i just cant get over it. everytime i look at those sad,
ghostly pictures i get a terrible feeling inside. its like i lost an old friend. i know that there is probably no way they could ever bring the park back; but i do wish that someone could save the jack rabbit someway. something that stands for that many years and survives all those fires should be preserved and enjoyed by others. maybe at another park. i dont have the answer, but i do have the memories of going there when i was a child and young teen. nobody can ever take those away!! i only wish my own children could have experienced the charm and joy of a small hometown park.

Thanks for the unfortunate news. I am really saddened by the fire, but i have great memeoies of the record hops and the wonderful times in the park from my childhood.
i am wondering how to connect to the list of people that have signed in and the dates? I am having difficulty finding that site. HELP, PLEASE

I was very saddened to hear what happened to the old ballroom.And after seeing the shape the rest of the park was in made me ill.I never heard if they found out what caused the fire, as I live out of state now and it's hard to keep in touch.I assume it was arson and I hope the person or persons responsible are happy about what they did.Did they stop and think for one minute what they were doing?Did they ever realize how many people met,danced,sang,laughed,cried and fell in love there? Maybe they would have thought twice. Did they think for a few kicks they could destroy all of that? I have news for them. Idora Park is a part of our past,a part of our heritage,and a part of our lives.Like a favorite pet you spent a thousand sunny afternoons with, so is Idora.I remember as a kid my Dad taking me and my brothers and sisters there every year.We could'nt even sleep the night before. I can still see the smile on my Dad's face as we waived to him from the bumpercars. That can never be destroyed.
