Actually that's not entirely accurate. My Gaydar seems to work ok when it comes to celebrities but terrible in real life.
Now you could say that if you see enough of a certain celebrity you subconsciously pick up on things, but then you probably been following them for some time.
Here in real life? I certainly cannot tell from a first meeting or even for a while... usually... Again there are exceptions to that where certain actions, mannerisms trigger the suspicion.
Now I've never met anyone who once thought me gay because according to nearly everyone I know I'm the straightest acting gay guy. That, and I rarely show any form of emotion!
So I don't think its a myth but I think perhaps it's more down to how socially aware one is of people and actions...
I dunno but that's my take on it anyway! :)
