Subject: Spring for me...
In reply to: JeffsFort 's message, "IMAGINE Magazine Question for 4/15 - "It's Spring Time"" on 17:58:26 03/11/26 Wed

Spring for me meant longer spells of daylight. The UK is pretty far north, in the northern hemisphere. During the winter months, we'd only really have freedom to enjoy ourselves, in daylight, at the weekend cause it wouldn't get light until 8-9 am, and it would already be getting dark by 3.30pm. So we were stuck in school all day.

It was usually, icy, cold and raining too. Everything felt like it was dead outside. And this is when we were kids, so those months dragged on for ever.

You could tell it getting towards spring, and eventually the summer holidays, when it was still light out when you're walking home. Even during the day, the sun was further up in the sky and it was warmer and flowers were starting to sprout.

Funnily enough, I moved to Scotland about 20 years ago, which is even further north. I'm parallel to the bottom of Alaska now, (though it gets less snow and cold temperatures, so it's not as extreme as Alaska, the amount of light we get is the same.)

On the flip side, it never gets fully dark during the summer on a clear night. You could mow the lawn at 3am here, if you really wanted to.

However, all the best kids TV shows tended to be on in the winter, like The Demon Headmaster on the BBC.
