Subject: My boyhood crushes
In reply to: TurtleBoy 's message, "All right everyone, LISTEN UP!" on 11:49:10 04/02/26 Thu

Wow! This one turned out to be a lengthy post. Sorry in advance. xD

The first boy I ever had a crush on is someone I knew in real life, we met when were both 5, at my parents (stepdad & mother's) wedding. I remember feeling sad when it got to about 7pm, he went to go sleep in the back of his parents car, while they remained at the post-wedding celebrations. We'd been playing together all day. That was the first and last time I saw him but he had a profound affect on my life.

I might rank the rest at the end, I'm not even sure who's on the list yet. I have to think as I write this through.

My first celebrity crush, and probably still the most profound (celebrity crush) and always will be, was Henry Thomas from E.T. I think I'm just a sucker for sensitive souls, which explains him, and the next one.

I didn't have the easiest childhood, and Elliot and E.T were my source for comfort through those years, which probably sounds weird, but it is what it is. I didn't have a lot of people in real life that I could depend on for support, when I was young, so I often found it on the screen.

My second crush was, I think, Joey Cramer, from Turtleboy's side of the pond. Like E.T, I rewatched Flight Of The Navigator until the VHS tape got chewed up in the machine. Then I promptly went to HMV to buy another, lol.

Fun fact: did you know, before Joey got the part in FOTN, he performed as a stunt double, in The Neverending Story, for one of the bullies, who chase Sebastian in the trash can? The original boy playing the bully was sick and couldn't work that day, so local, future star, Joey stepped in for him. Though we never really see him close up.

Then it was probably Joshua Jackson, (another Canadian), who played Charlie in the Mighty Ducks.

I discovered Wil Wheaton as well around this time, his leach scene in Stand By Me, will always be etched in my mind. It's still one of my favourite movies. Though he was also really cute in TNG.

You'll probably notice by now, I have a type. Usually brunettes (though not always, as you'll see below, and slender, slightly nerdy sometimes, and have usually had emotional roles in shows and movies.

Next up, Mathew Lawrence from Mrs Doubtfire. Can't forget him. Damn, he was a cutie.

Come to think of it, I think most of the boys I crushed on in the 1990s had the curtain style haircut. I tried to get the style myself and made a complete mess and had to have my whole head buzzed short. I hated it, and I really really hated going back to school after the weekend.

Devon Sawa was another who had that style. He was so cute in Casper and Little Giants (did you know he was already about 16 in Casper? insane). And who can forget Now And Then? The skinny dipping scene, where we get to see his bare arse.

You should know I was going through puberty when these movies were coming out. I'd *ahem* bone up in the middle of class, thinking about the image Devon Sawa and his character's brothers, running through the street naked, then go home to re-watch the tape :P

But when it came to real life, I had to be much more clandestine about taking sneaky peeks at my classmates changing and washing in the showers. Though peek I did, and I got a few surprises.

We don't see the curtain hairstyle anymore. They all have the alpaca haircut today, which I'm not a fan of.

Nick Stahl in that Mel Gibson movie, Man Without a Face. Another boy I had a crush on. In one scene he walks around in his tighty whities, I watched that scene many times, lol.
He always seemed so ... sweaty though. I wonder if they were filming during a heatwave?

Let's see... Mid 90s, who else? Ah, Corey Haim, another Canadian!? Damn, TB, what are they putting in the water over there? I first saw the movie Lucas in the mid 90s though it came out in the mid 80s. I fell in love with the character, lucas, though apparently Corey was nothing like him irl. He was really into sports, and quite extroverted. sadly he passed away long before his time.

I was also crushing on Elijah Wood around the same time. Didn't he also have a tighty whitie scene in The War? Though it was through Forever Young that I discovered him. It was his curtain hairstyle that won me over. Told ya I was a sucker :P

Joseph Cross, from the movie Jack Frost with Michael Keaton. He's another standout from around that time. I still watch that film every Christmas to get into the festive spirit.

Into the 2000s, and we have Rupert Grint, Thomas Sangster and Freddie Highmore, three cuties from this side of the pond.

Also, can't forget Liam Mower, when he was playing Billy Elliot back then. Cute, blond, gay, I always wondered if those lads ever got up to 'anything', as they all had to board at the same big house, for a couple of years, when they played the role and a lot of them were gay, either known at the time, or they came out later.

It's the 2010s, we have Maxwell jenkins, from Lost In Space. He gave me a little bit of Henry Thomas vibes, especially in season one.

Tom Holland from The Impossible (I already knew him from Billy Elliot before that film and Spiderman, his BE stuff is still on YouTube).

Who else? Um, Samuel Joslin from Paddington 2014, (he was also in The Impossible, with Tom). If you haven't seen that movie, check it out. It's so underrated. Most people think it's for young kids cause it's got a talking bear in it, but it's so much more than that. People are usually left surprised by how good a movie it is, when they give it a watch.

Next up is probably my biggest crush, excluding Henry, of course. Judah Lewis in The Babysitter. When I saw him in The Babysitter, he gave me Corey Haim 'vibes', for some reason. I think they just look similar. Which might explain a few things. He was also in Demolition, he plays a young teen questioning his sexuality. He's so adorable in that, and pretty wild too. I recommend checking it out, if you haven't seen it.

Here's a short clip from it.

Also, right now, Alfie Williams from 28 Years later 1&2, The actor himself seems so sweet and level headed, despite the instant fame, and I loved his portrayal as Spike in 28YL. I hope he goes on to do good things. He deserves it.

And, last but not least, another Canadian, in honour of the Turtle's birthday. :D

Bean Reid.

Bean was the main star in a new Goosebumps feature length film. I enjoyed the film a lot more than I was expecting to because it felt so ... 90s/early 2000s, like the books and the show. Even the character himself resembled a kid from that era, it took me back to my childhood, when I was crushing on Devon and Joshua etc.

I was going to make a rank, but I added way more than I expected, and after a certain point, the list is less definitive. I'll just say, that, my order is based on any sort emotional connection I have with the actor/character as much as physical. Maybe they were my source of comfort, like Henry/Elliot, when I needed it, as well as maybe I was impressed with some of their acting and particular scenes, also applies to Henry, but also others too.

So Henry would be at the top of my list. Judah Lewis, just for his looks alone, would be second. Joey Cramer a close third because I crushed on him madly in my preteen years. Devon for supplying my hormone crazy gay teenage self extensive *ahem* material to 'work' with ;)

To round it up to a top 5, I'll go with Liam Mower, from Billy Elliot the musical, because I've actually met him in real life, and he was really nice and down to earth.
