I feel I got more than my money's worth, Matt. (I paid for the entire conference even though I was only staying two days, as it was cheaper than two days plus the dinner...) Though I haven't really been to a bad conference, this one rates high for organization and efficient running.

The difficult part of a conference is always the stuff about arranging the venue and the speakers, the meals and getting things in order, then processing the registrations and getting people where they are supposed to be on time. I've been involved in this process twice, and I don't look forward to doing it ever again.

Your organization came into this with all the ducks in order, and if there were any serious problems, I wasn't aware of them. The selection of speakers was excellent. I did hear of a session that was a bit of a dud, but you don't really have control over that. It didn't spoil anybody's weekend.

The important thing about a conference, to me, is the opportunity to meet writers from all over the country, and make and renew friendships. That sounds a bit trite, but it is really, really true. I made contact with someone who has promised to edit a novel for me, when I get it finished, and did some politicking for the Canadian Writers' Foundation, that I had planned on.

I also got to meet Lori, Ian, and Dianne, so what could be wrong? Except that the Rum Runner was out of Guinness.

Cheers,
Roger
