] Date Posted: Tue, Mar 18 2008, 12:16:14 Being a victim of a timeshare scam in 1999 I would like to share with you some ways of getting your money back. I was trick by interval resorts network at faber house on orchard rd to buying $8k membership. What you should / should not do: - You will regret the moment you sign the deal and step out of the office. I had a big fight with my wife :( - Very soon you may get a call from some of these "resale" companies like maestro or vanasia offering to help you sell your membership for some fees ($588 or $888). DO NOT fall for these tricks. All they have is a website with some listings with exorbitant prices which no one cares for and no one buys. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR MONEY. - Keep a RECORD of EVERY transaction you have related to the timeshare. - Do NOT wait till many months or years passed. I made the mistake and now since more than 6 yrs, singapore law doesn't protect me. - Go IMMEDIATELY to the company and ask for termination of contract - most cases they will send you away. Take a witness, a friend, etc with you. DO NOT use foul language or shout. Anyway they will blow you off. - Go straight to CASE. They will help you appeal and re-appeal to the company. The company will usually IGNORE these letters from CASE since CASE is a toothless tiger. Please remember, CASE is NOT going to provide you legal help. CASE is not going to sue the company. CASE is just a mouthpiece for you and their powers are limited to none. So now you have plonk down several thousands on a useless membership with no hope of getting money back. What to do? - Contact a lawyer. Get recommendation from friends. Speak to a few of them. DO NOT go for the cheapest lawyer. Get someone who you feel you can trust. Present all the facts to them. - If you can claim misrepresentation, or sign under duress, get your lawyer all the facts of the case and from now on, deal with the company only thru your lawyer. - If you are lucky you will get back some money, otherwise if you apply too late (past 6 yrs) or if your contract is really not misrepresentation then you are out of luck. Treat it as a learning experience and STAY AWAY from these clowns. - Be prepared to pay some lawyer fees as they dont come cheap. Still it is better than the money going to these timeshare scam companies. I am surprise these scam companies are operating with such impunity in a "tough" country like singapore. It is a black mark on our collective face. So at the end of the day it is up to us to protect ourself so all of you BE CAREFUL and DON'T part with your hard earned money.
