Hi all, thanks to your postings, I finally discovered why I wasn't getting any response from GIC! I gave GIC $1720 for 2 memberships and although there's no guarantee that we can recover the money, at least those involved will receive some justice.
I've just lodged a police report today at the NPP but they are unlikely to follow up with an investigation unless more people come forward with complaints.
I think I'll try the Commercial Affairs Dept. I hope more people come forward!
My check with ACRA (Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority) Biz file shows the name and address of the Singaporean Director, his IC no. and address (if he's even there anymore). I've submitted the ACRA printout document to the police so they'll know who to look for if this case actually gets investigated.
I've also been advised to go to the Small Claims Tribunal. They can help recover amounts not exceeding $10K. We need to submit the relevant documents and the police report (compulsory) when filing a Magistrate Complaint at the Magistry Complaints Counter (Criminal Courts Registry, Subordinate Courts). The judge will decide if it's a case of fraud and can instruct the police to conduct an investigation.
Even if they get the guy, they may not be able to recover the money if he hasn't got any left.
Still, it's better that he know he can't get away.
The cost is less that $100 so it's not as costly as hiring a lawyer. I'm taking it one step at a time. Don't have much time to spare but I really feel I've got to pursue this gradually till there's some result.

Hi Theresa

Please go to http://www.smallclaims.gov.sg/SCT-Lodging_a_Claim.html & click on checklist, Small Claims Tribunal does not handle time-share related contracts. This has been repeatedly highlighted in this forum in the past.
