Please do not trust any of such scams, I did sign up for GIC but now they are closed. I think we should report all scams to the police and hopefully they do some thing about these and stop more people from being scamed and cheated of they money. Just too many of these companies going around but no action from the authorities?????.

Has anyone been able to sell your timeshare membership? Or do we really have to treat it as bad debt to terminate the membership in order to stop paying maintenance fee?

Before you guys go any further into the resale thing, please read the little faq that i wrote : http://www.voy.com/161450/1191.html .

Better to be informed than being conned again and again.

I've visited them at their Chinatown Point office when they claimed that they are advertising overseas in some sort of timeshare fair and sadly to say I was conned once again by another company who claimed they can sell my timeshare. I even paid close to $700 registration fee for them to sell my timeshare as I was desperate to sell it away.

A few weeks ago, they called to ask me not to use my timeshare. I believe all these unscrupulous company rent out your timeshare since you signed an agreement with them to either sell/rent it and after a year, they can just claim that they cannot find a buyer. Now I've decided to let it be and refuse to pay anymore maintenance fee to my home resort yearly anymore.

I just went GIC a few days ago. They said there are potential Indonesian Chinese businessmen who want to buy timeshare resorts to offset their taxes. They will pay us at least 120% of what we had paid. Not sure how true is it. Told to pay $800+ legal fees if engaging their lawyers to complete the whole transaction (which will take 3 months), or I can get my own lawyers to do it. There will be full refund after 1 year if they are not able to sell. No hard-sell tactics from them, but I am not allowed to see the contract if I cannot make a decision. So, I just said I need to think, and left.

Is there any way to check what they say is true?

I have successfully sold my Australian Timeshare to a Sri Lankan National for S$4,500 which I paid $9,800 through a resale company called CROWN located on the 5th floor of Delfi Orchard and they charged zero fee till they found me the buyer. The membership was good as my wife and I loves Australia and travel there every year but the Developer kept raising the annual Management from A$365 back in 1999 to the current A$525 noting that in 1999 you only pay $0.80 to buy A$1 but now it went up to S$1.30...so not only the Sin dollar weaken against the Aussie dollar but the annual fee increases too.

Today, a man named Getty Lai from GIC called me to setup an appointment to meet to buy my timeshare at 120% of what I had paid. He said I will not need to pay any money upfront. I am not sure if I should meet him this Saturday.
Any advise?

Just got a call from GIC too regarding the sale of my timeshare.

Got the Awana Vacation Resort for about S$9200 3 years ago and was told that there is no need for the buyer to pay anything at all. The seller will be required to pay for the legal transaction and commission to GIC will also be paid by the buyer. Think the upcoming Chinese or Indonesian nationals are interested in the timeshare.

For those brudders who have sold their timeshares, are there any other 'hidden' costs?

We just went today for the presentation. They say we can get our own solicitor or pay them to use their solicitor @ S$1720.

They even showed us a file on 1 case that they hv closed. Not sure if this is genuine.

Seem quite a good deal. But we also told them we need time to think and walk off.

Has anyone sucessfully closed any deal with them?

It is wiser to approach a law firm then to use a "resale" company to do it for you. The lawyer there is not going to eat you up and there is very very very low risk of getting con again.

Hi, I was called up by GIC, lady name Cherry. She asked me to pay upfront $1700 for the lawyer fee, or I can get my own lawyer to setting the transfer. Does anyone aware do we need lawyer to sell off our timeshare ? They did not hard-push me to sell off. I can make my own decision. But $1700?? it is a lot

Beware all timeshare member. Your information has been sold or either stolen from the mother companies like LGM, IRN, Oriental Travel and even Emperor. Staff has either stole your information while they were working there or staff of these companies has leaked out information for monies.

THis is due to these mother companies not paying the staff well. There is no sense of loyalties to these companies as the 'white' eat about 80% of the profit and the rest of the 20% is shared by the Asian staff.

A lot of the staff has left these mother companies as they feel it is not right to be paid 20% as they do more of the dirty job.

That is the reason why most of the staff left and open their own companies. Now they can eat that 80% and leave the 20% to new comers.

All the staff that has left has now open their own small companies like Vanasia (from LGM) Aztech(from LGM), CIA (from LGM), OBN (from LGM), E-switch (from LGM and ATC), GIC (from LGM), Palmz Dest (from LGM)and believe it there will be more coming up.

Therefore the only victim here we have is the members whose information has been passed around from companies to companies. That's the reason why timeshare members have been called numerous time by all these resales companies.

However, some of these companies are genuine in assisting and some are not. Well timeshare members have a choice of 'shopping' now to get the best deal. Do your homework before you decide on doing anything.

Well, the moral of the story is these big mother companies do not appreciate their staff and they always think that ASIAN ARE STUPID and nothing of such can happen. Well it happened. Serve them right.

Well if you are a staff of these mother companies that have been mentioned, think again whether you should still be in the company..... well I know that you are all not that happy. You think you are paid well, think again. Do the math.

Loyalty to the company.... please, they are 'white'. They can just pack up their bag, take their money and leave. Good luck to you Asian.

Especially for Mr Katherasan in LGM, we know your ass is for the company. Leave while you still can. You are a good man. You dont deserve this. Dwayne is using you.

Well i guess I have said enough. So timeshare members, be very careful, keep your options open. Dont rush into buying anything.

I also signed up with them to sell my timeshare somewhere in late November and they told me that they would be able to sell my timeshare within 3 mths. I tried calling them and they kept dragging the matter on.. saying they are checking with the buyers etc. The last time I managed to call in was on the week of 6th March and the person who answered the call said that the person who was in charge of the sales was not around. Ever since that friday, the call was never made through.

I suspected something is wrong when I could not get through after a week. But i have not gone down to check yet. Guess I should make a police report as well.

Why do people still believe they can unload their timeshare and collect money? This whole thing is a farce. There is no value for your membership which was sold to you at goodness-knows-what price the marketing company sold to you! As u know by now, there is no fixed price and u have been cheated of your money by these timeshare consultants who seduced u into paying for the membership. Just take my advice. Just stop paying any more money. If u don't want to keep it then just give up the membership. Don't believe all those resellers out there who promise they can help u sell off your membership or help u get out of the rut and who pack up and leave when they are about to be exposed. Sometimes it makes me wonder how come the authorities are not doing anything about this. For all those who have been cheated please go to the police and make a report. Go see your MPs and tell them about this. I suppose this is a good time to do it. Let them be aware of the cheating that is going on and how people are being conned and taken for a ride with their hard-earned money. Its time we teach these foreigners and the locals who have been influenced a lesson!

Hi all, thanks to your postings, I finally discovered why I wasn't getting any response from GIC! I gave GIC $1720 for 2 memberships and although there's no guarantee that we can recover the money, at least those involved will receive some justice.
I've just lodged a police report today at the NPP but they are unlikely to follow up with an investigation unless more people come forward with complaints.
I think I'll try the Commercial Affairs Dept. I hope more people come forward!
My check with ACRA (Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority) Biz file shows the name and address of the Singaporean Director, his IC no. and address (if he's even there anymore). I've submitted the ACRA printout document to the police so they'll know who to look for if this case actually gets investigated.
I've also been advised to go to the Small Claims Tribunal. They can help recover amounts not exceeding $10K. We need to submit the relevant documents and the police report (compulsory) when filing a Magistrate Complaint at the Magistry Complaints Counter (Criminal Courts Registry, Subordinate Courts). The judge will decide if it's a case of fraud and can instruct the police to conduct an investigation.
Even if they get the guy, they may not be able to recover the money if he hasn't got any left.
Still, it's better that he know he can't get away.
The cost is less that $100 so it's not as costly as hiring a lawyer. I'm taking it one step at a time. Don't have much time to spare but I really feel I've got to pursue this gradually till there's some result.

Hi Theresa

Please go to http://www.smallclaims.gov.sg/SCT-Lodging_a_Claim.html & click on checklist, Small Claims Tribunal does not handle time-share related contracts. This has been repeatedly highlighted in this forum in the past.
