Hi all,

Just yesterday my fiance and I were ambushed outside Faber House and although my fiance (having gone through this before) warned me about these things I was curious. So when we "won" the red star for a 7day holiday stay, I decided to go and check out what they'd have to say.

What a tiring epidose it was! The supposed 80min talk dragged to 3hours! But most of the talking was done by me and my fiance. We were so suspicious of everything they said that we questioned them endlessly on their choice of marketing (picking pple off the streets)and their "cornering" strategies (pressuring to sign on the spot). Our argument was, if the product was so good as they claimed, all they have to do is advertise normally. Pple will research and think about it, and come to the decision that its a good deal. The only reason why they would resort to such sneaky tactics is if it really IS a scam. We even advised our "consultant" to get another job as her talents were being wasted in such a line.

After reading most of the entries here, I am glad we argued with them (and probably made them lose a few sales at the tables near us..my fiance has a loud voice). Everyone should listen to any sale they are approached about with a clear mind and just question EVERYTHING. It is your right to do so, you are not obliged to anything.

By the way, the company seems to be doing well now (compared to nine years ago when my fiance was approached first), which disturbingly means that they have many members to suck dry. They actually give out valid shopping vouchers, which we got as well for listening to them. And their office space is comparatively quite impressive too...

I am quite curious though: are there any out there who have experienced the actual holidays and enjoyed them thorougly?

Hi everyone. If u have about 90 mins to spare and just can't resist the temptation of collecting your free gifts and have altruistic feelings just do as they say. Let the poor 'surveyor' who marks your crosses and tells u with excitement that u have won some free gifts, collect their commissions. At the end of the promised 90 mins just walk out and collect your free gifts as promised. If u don't get your gifts make a scene at the reception and threaten to call the police. This is how to get even with these people.

I'm so glad that I found this webpage before going down to listen to their talk! Me and my bf was approached infront of paragon by this poly gal to fill up this survey.

After filling it up, was told that we are entitled to lucky draws. With normal lucky draws, you don't actually get so lucky but I got a yellow star and was informed that I had won a $25 Tangs voucher and when my bf picked up his choice he got the 1st prize of 7N stay! This is almost like impossible! We were told that there are only 80 1st prize each month. Now, this is actually weird to me since normally 1st prizez means limited in quantity how come there are 80?

The gal later called her supervisor to come over to fill in the invitation, which at that time I had not idea I had to go for any talk. After filling in the form, he told me that we have to go for a 80 mins talk and at the talk there will be 4 numbers where we can try matching our credit cards numbers to, if they are a match we will win another $300 shopping voucher from Robinsons or Isetan. By that time was rather late because we were on our way to catch our movie. But the gal having about to "earn" $150 commission was quite upset she even offered to refund us our money for the tickets so that we will go and listen to the talk for her to get her commission. Then her supervisor consulted another sup to tell us that we can return anytime this week to attend the talk. We were told that we do not need to pay for anything but I had wondered at that time, since when free things comes with no strings attached?

But anyways, that gal keep reminding us to come back this week so that she can get her commission. Initially, we had thought why not? Since it's just listening to talks and we've got time to spare and this will help the gal get her comission. But now I'm having 2nd thoughts.

Actually, I wonder if those surveyors even know that they are helping these companies con people? It seems to me like the companies are not only cheating us but those surveyors who are working for them as well.

I'm just glad that I have not yet went for the talk.

After reading some other post at this forum, I believe there is another such company, Oriental something, at Shaw Centre. I always pass that place when I go for my classes on weekends and I normally see Europeans and Americans in there and that place looked so high class! Now I know why they have that money to renovate their premises to such standard.

I wish I had done that last night. The promised 80 mins became 4 hours, way past midnight. Me and my gf decided to take up the trial membership for $3000. It's only when I reached home did we decide to back out. I called the bank this morning at 5am to hold the transaction, but alas, it has been processed! Going down this evening to cancel the agreement as it is still within the cooling period of 3 days. Hopefully everything's alright. Wish me luck.....

Hi Adrian,

Me and my hubby has bought their membership yesterday too and will be going down to cancel the membership today after reading all the negative feedbacks of IRN!

What is your reason for termination of this purchase? What time are you going down? We are afriad that the fellow will refuse to pay us the full re-fund. I shall get the bank to stop payment 1st.

Tried calling the bank to stop payment at 5am, but was told that the transaction has already gone through, and to think that I have only bought it at 1130pm the previous night!

No need to give them any reason, your cooling off period ( in the FTA also ) is for your re-consideration of the purchase. Don't believe them if they say that you can't cancel just because you don't want it anymore. Give them any official black and white letter, obtain an acknowledgement if possible, like by registered post. If they refuse, approach CASE, they can definitely help you as you are covered under the FTA. Hopes this helps.

Hi Fen,

We have to terminate mainly due to the objections from her parents, who have heard bad remarks abt such timeshare scheme, and of course, after doing some research over the internet. Managed to cancel, am just hoping that I'll get back the full refund in 3 working days!

managed to cancel without much problems, except the member services manager was trying hard to find out why, and was trying to "help" me.

refund came in about 2 weeks after cancellation.

1st time to this forum and was searching for someone with identical experiences when i see E-switch whom i just met last week. I have not taken their 'offer' because i m not comfortable having to wait 3-6yrs for the money and transfer. Anything can go on there and then u have another new agreement to go into with them to purchase their VDU right?

As ur post was dated Dec 05 i wonder what was ur action then. Do hope u still come back to this forum.

Answering Kay, and the rest talking about Legal plan....

Iam new in this forum, let me introduce....as I am one of the victim of paying this much, for a LIFE TIME membership... I guess till the company close down.

I hv used the free vacation to Gold Coast, the accomodation is not too bad, and all the free voucher S$2000- is real, usable against the airline ticket fare. I still have 4 more of these free accomodation to use.

The other experience I have is when I book the Star Cruise during Chinese New Year. expensive due to peak time, but I did check the price with 1 other travel agent at Marina Square. And admitedly the price given by Oriental was rock bottom as per travel agent slim profit.

So bottom line, it is true that Oriental acting as a travel agent and "mostly" /"may be" they did not take any commission, well after getting a lot of money for membership.

Legal action is difficult.. I think, because of the Tight Contract they have created and we signed. All the offers are true meaning not a fully scam. but of course not as good what was talked in the presentation.

the only area that I am very disappointed about the whole ordeal is their selling technique..... they have promised and showed so many good stuffs.. but none of them proven , they are smart we can not even bring our phone into the presentation.. fearing some one would record. All the quotation on the scratch paper we did not keep, so we have no other proof.

They claimed as NON Timeshare company....but their product selling Gold Crown Resort is a timeshare company.
but they can also claim that it is true that ORIENTAL as registered a travel agent in Singapore, is not a Timeshare company.

Getting back our money is virtually impossible, unless there is a lawyer that can find some hole in the contract.

This is just an idea....
But if our motives is to prevent more people got into this... we should made some more "Public" awareness type activities beyond this forum.. like may be going on the street at Orchard giving out handouts. giving public advice...by providing some "tips" to "think carefully" before you sign, to be given out at the door of Ngee Ann city Tower B where LGM is, and Shaw Plaza where Oriental is conducting their activities.

This is just an idea...let see how many would agree.
