Subject: ATC closing down?

I was contacted by ATC/IRN yesterday saying that the company is closing down their time-sharing business... and did I get a letter from them telling me about the meeting/forum they had arranged 2 weeks ago? I obviously did not get such a letter from them earlier and thus did not attend.

Thus, they want to arrange a meeting for me to meet them to discuss my "options" ASAP since they need to close their files.

Should I go for this meeting? I have fully paid up but have never used the holiday weeks. Is this just another tactic of extorting more money from me?

Personally I think in some ways there is network within these resale companies and they are cahoots in this whole scam. This happened right after my brush with IRN where they advised me to upgrade my program and I refused and I told them I wish to sell. Few weeks later, one company, ProBiz contacted me. Asked me to put refundable deposit of $298. Told me 90% success rate of selling it within 2 weeks. (I bought mine from ATC via IRN)

No prize for guessing correctly. Gave me all kinds of crap about why it could not be sold. Took me few weeks and 2 visits to the company to get back my deposit. And guess what? Out of the blue, another "knight in shiny armour" appeared, and tell me they would try to "resolve" my problem. And this company is just another Time Share marketing company LGM. They are trying to make me convert my plan to theirs. These guys probably has our database which I believe is shared in some ways. Otherwise there is no way on earth these guys from LGM got my contact and also so coincidentally after my brush with ProBiz.

Just about everyone I come across in this time share industry stinks.

If they say they sent a letter which you did not receive about them closing down, then something must be wrong, no? What options do you expect them to give - pay you back every cent?

Hi WL,

I had a similar call as you. I attended with a lot of doubts. They have opened a new service centre in Singapore to step up their service, but that is yet to know their effectiveness. The briefing was all about updates revolving the industry and what's new, that was a good eye opener. I've also made my first booking through them, hopefully it gets through...Basically, seems okay, nothing to be alarmed of.

My wife was conned by ATC to sign their contract. They also called my wife pm the 8/10 and says that she must meet them for discussion on the 'options' (my wife stopped paying them about 2yrs ago). The option turned out to be:
1) another contact to sign with IRN and pay them the total amount of S$9000 or
2) deal with ATC of Thailand, which they will seek legal action against my wife in and may cost S$14,000.

Trap, trap, trap. Don't really know how to move from here. The form she signed last time has the term "non-rescindable, non-cancelable & final"... Anyone can help?
It seems that they're quite desparate. They called yesterday, want her to meet today and to get documents sign tomorrow.

May I urge everyone here to lodge a complaint with CASE, or even complain to your MP. Time for some People Power in Singapore. If our so effective government can't even safeguard our basic consumer rights, why vote for them?

I signed up for ATC's membership plan last Aug. I've come close to a year in paying my membership fees. I'm beginning to doubt the incredulous offers that they promised me. However i can only confirm if i can book any of their offers when i've paid 1/2 of the membership package. Anyone finished paying for their membership fees n can get thru booking a holiday thru them? N is der any way i can get outa this mess?

Hi Thomas,

In that case, you have to read more to know what will happen to your membership in near future.

I'm a victim of the ATC's trap too.I paid 6570$ to Club Thara at ATC in Phuket in 2001.

The four main points to the OTE(organisation for timeshare in Europe)Directive are:

1.Buyers must have a Statory Minimum "cooling off" period of ten days from signing the contract.

2.The taking of deposites before the end of cooling off period is prohibited.

3.Contract myst be in language of the member state in which the buyer lives.

4. Purchesers must resive all desckriptive and their rights.

All the 4 points were broken by the Manager Mr. D. Cooper when I bought the timeshare.

At the first year nobody abswer to me until the Management invoise with threat that my rights of occupationn will be canceled with my money.

During the first year I asked the Manager Mr.David Cooper and Huthinson's campany to return my money back to me.But nobody answer to me at all. I have reseived a very big moral and finances damage from the Club ATC.

At 2003 year when I spent my holiday in Club Thara,The new Manager from Club Thara offered me to move from Club Thara at ATC to Club Thara.
I agreed.Because The Manager LEE Hong Mga Samuel showed my dossier with the copy of number of my money which I paid to ATC for my membershipe.

I need to used this timeshare because I can not to reseive my money back.

I need to pay the management fee to this Club Thara which is increased every two years.

But there is nothing points about this management increasing
in my contract.

If 4.Purchesers must reseive all deskriptive and their rights.

What's the Club Rulls? and why The Club Thara when was been at ATC and now to conceal,to cheated me about this Club Rulls and my rights?

Have I a chance to return my money back in this case?

Now at the same plase on two floor near restaurants where ATC was been solding the timeshare at THE THARA CLUB,the other company "ABSOLUTE" are selling the timeshare at Thara Club again.

How Thai Government allowed the selling timeshare? Is there THAI law about the timeshare?
