Apply hand lotion and begin to massage the palm of your hand with the thumb of your other hand. This will help to circulate the blood. Work your way over the remainder of the hand and then repeat giving equal time to the other hand. Before color is applied to nails, they must be cleaned and the easiest way to do this is with an orange stick that has been wrapped with cotton. Dip into nail polish remover and then rub over the surface of the nail. Check the nail for any creamy residue. When none remains, your nails will be ready for polishing. Time for color. Pick up a small amount of polish on your brush and paint one stroke down the center of your nail. Your brush should hold just enough color to accomplish this. Stroke the sides of the nail and you are done. The nail should be completely colored in three strokes. Allow to set for a minute or so before applying the second coat. Wait until polish is set (dry to the touch) and then apply the top coat. Don't skip this step as it not only adds life to your manicure, it will protect your nails as well.
Sanitize all of your equipment with alcohol and when they are dry, store them away until the next manicure. Nail Tips: Nail polish can be stored in the fridge. If your nail polish is too thick, try thinning with a polish thinner. Signing a lease

Once you agree to rent an apartment or a house, you may be asked to sign a one-year
lease.

This legal document of one or two pages describes the rental property, the utilities included and the options, such as parking and storage. It may also state whether pets or more people are allowed.

Most apartments are leased by the year, although some are rented monthly.

You will probably need to pay the first and last month's rent when you sign the lease. If your apartment requires a lease, your landlord will give you the lease form to sign. Read it over carefully before you sign it.

Pay special attention to the parts that state exceptions and additions. You should know which utilities you will pay for and which ones will be paid for by the landlord. Be sure you know what the monthly rent payment includes.

For example, is the electricity included? the water included? the parking included? Also find out whether you have to pay a fee if you leave before the lease term is over.

You cannot usually break a lease agreement. It is also likely you will be asked to provide a Canadian reference or to have a co-signer sign the lease to guarantee your financial commitment.

There is no national school system in Canada. Schools and universities are run by the provinces; therefore, education varies somewhat from province to province. Most elementary and secondary schooling is public, meaning it is free and open to everyone. Depending on the individual province, primary eduation starts at pre-kindergarten and continues to the end of grade 6 or 8.

This is followed by secondary education or high school. In some provinces this may be divided into junior high (grades 7 to 9) and senior high (grades 10 to 12). Normally, students must complete the required academic courses in high school in order to be admitted to university or college.

The regular school year runs from late August or early September until mid- to late June.
New students can usually be registered throughout the school year. Most schools are
closed on national holidays. Also, all schools are closed between Christmas Eve and New
Year's Day, and most are closed for a week in March for spring break. The longest school
holiday occurs over the summer months of July and August.
Universities and community colleges hold their regular classes from late August or early
September until April, although some courses are offered from January to April and a smaller number are available over the summer months. University and community college courses are not free and the costs vary among the provinces.

When you register your children at the local school or school board office, you must take with you:

Canadian immigrant visa (permanent resident card);

birth certificate or baptismal certificate;

vaccination certificate;

any previous school records.

Your children's language and mathematical skills will be assessed, if necessary, and they will be placed in the program the school thinks is best for them.

Education in Canada is available in English and French. Many Canadian parents, even if they do not speak French themselves, believe it is good for their children to be able to speak both English and French. Some put their children in a French immersion program, where children learn most of the regular subjects in French.

Avoid any sudden strain. If you are going to have to bend in any way make sure that your back is not cold and stiff. Exercise regularly to loosen up the back and strengthen its supporting abdominal muscles. Stretching your back helps loosen it and prevent injury.

If you sit for long periods, make sure your back is properly supported. Place a small roll in the arch of your lower spine (at waist height) to maintain its normal S-curve. Simply a towel, or cushion rolled up will do.

When lifting, never bend down from the waist, lower and raise yourself at the knees. Keep your back straight and hold the object close to your body. If you are going to carry anything any distance that may be heavy, make sure that your way is clear. You do not want to be dodging around things when you are carrying.

Balance items you carry evenly on both sides of your body and hold them close or use a knapsack.

Sleep on your back if possible, with knees raised on a pillow. If you sleep on your side, a pillow between the knees is a big help.

BEWARE OF JOAN ANDERSON, BUSINESS NAME CREATIVE DESIGNS BY JOAN. This woman and her partner are absolutely insane. They took my dress top, plus the money to decorate it, promised according to the website to have the dress back to me in 3 weeks. They refuse to return phone calls and emails, REPEATEDLY! They agreed to meet us in Gastonia, NC to give us the dress and never showed. We finally received the dress over 3 months later, and that was only because we offered to drive to GA to pick it up! Then they sent us the FED-EX bill. Check out their standing with the Better Business Bureau...not too good, I'm afraid. When I posted the dress for sale, they told people I was lying and they had nothing to do with the dress. Unfortunately for these lunatics, I have all invoices plus cancelled checks from the bank that prove otherwise. Please save yourself any trouble and find a more ethical, reputable, professional dressmaker. They are out there. And after receiving my finished dress top, I can tell you that Miss Joan has passed her prime in dressmaking. Not impressed at all!

All it takes is being in the right place at the right time to be discovered and Sunshine Productions is the place to be!!!! Sunshine Productions had three contestants that were asked to go to a movie set (movie made for Disney) after the national pageant. Congratulations to Haley Butler, Austin Craig and Kody Silver. They started filming on Monday right after the pageant in South Carolina!

Hey everyone,
My name is Robbie Wilson & I am with a non-profit organization called Queen for a Day. The goal of this non-profit is to raise the self-esteem & self-confidence of young girls with cancer (or other illnesses). We do this by hosting tea parties at hospitals where the girls receive a make-over & tiaras (donated by titleholders or pageant companies across the country)! The girls have their pictures taken with a title holder to commemorate this special day!

Since we are a non-profit we rely heavily on donations & we are running EXTREMELY low on tiaras! The National Headquarters has had to supply tiaras for 19 parties in the last 3 months & it has taken a heavy toll on our tiaras. REGARDING DIANA DEGARMOS LAST PERFORMANCE!!

My friend Janet was at the rehearsal for the finale today (she's a Fantasia fan keep in mind) but she told me that something happened that no one knows about but the people that were in the rehearsal .. she told me so I HAVE to share because I can't BELIEVE this .. it's regarding Diana DeGarmo.

Janet told me that during rehearsal Diana's last song "Don't Cry Out Loud" was PERFECT and she nailed it. Everyone was in awe. But the minute she stepped on that stage after her first 2 songs to perform it LIVE they changed up the song mojuluation on her and it went flat
and Diana started freaking out. They also made the song longer .. they didn't TELL her and they changed it up on NATIONAL TELEVISION .. LIVE! They also planned during certain parts in the song where Diana fell flat because of this to turn up the volume so it was made noticeable.

Janet told me after she performed, Diana's mom told her this and John Steven's mom and Carmen Rasmussen's mom commented on this as well (since they all were also at the rehearsal).

I'm sorry, but the show had NO RIGHT to do that to her regardless of the fact they want Fantasia to win. To pull that on someone is unacceptable.

Please feel free to copy this message Diana fans and post it ON ANY MESSAGE BOARD YOU WANT. I got permission from my friend and she said this needs to be leaked out in the media and other fans. As a Fantasia fan she said her friends and herself found this to be "incredibly wrong" of the show to do.

What the producers will do to get their way .. it sickens me. Let America decide who they want. Don't pull stupid crap to try to sway the voting.

And another side note, I found the judges comments to be incredibly inappropriate after her last song .. HER LAST SONG IN THE TOP 2 OF AMERICAN IDOL .. HER ***LAST**** PERFORMANCE AND THEY CAN'T FIND ONE GOOD THING TO SAY?!?! Terrible

HOLIDAY PROCTUIONS EASTER DOUBLE IN GEORGIA... ROTTEN EGGS!!!!!! -- Anonymous, 08:31:12 04/18/04 Sun [5]

OK, where do I begin, Oh, I know, how about the fact that the directors did not even come to the hotel the night before the pageant to do "set-up", let the kids see the ballroom or even look at the ballroom size as see that there may be a problem... oh yeah.. they did not want to spend the money on the cost of a room... did they care that the majority of the contestants were there the night before and lot of the moms had questions as to the schedule.. NO!!! Save that money on a hotel room night!!!! Next... does it say on their web site that registration would be at 8am, and they did not arrive until after 9am... YEP!! Hang on.. the juicy stuff is coming..... did they bring the moms into the ballroom individually to register... why do secretive????? did the pageant not start until after 10am.... YEP... Now this was an Easter Double.. was there one bit of deorations in that SMALL room!! NO!! My goodness directors.. could you not go to the Dollar Tree at least and buy some cheap decorations and make it look like you gave damn!!!! Come on... hang some cutouts on the walls or something...anythng!!!! Was the room LITERALLY as small as my living room!!! YES!!! This was the SMALLEST ballroom I have EVER been in!!! They had the nerve to charge 5.00 to get in, there were 10 chairs, and very little standing room!! Some families had alot of people, and siblings w/them and could not even be in the room to watch the competition it was so small!!!RIDICULOUS!!!! Crowning was an absolute joke!! CAN ANYONE OUT THERE GIVE US ANY REASON AT ALL THAT THERE SHOULD BE WHITE-ON ON THE TABULATORS TABLE?? SERIOUSLY!! WHITE-OUT!!! WHY????????? The paper work states that they would be an Ultimate grand.. enter this for 100.00 (both sides) and you could win!!! DID ANYONE WIN IT!! NO!!! But alot entered it!!! Your welcome ladies, hope you enjoy that money!!! the so called "bunny crowns" for the supremes were no larger than 5 inches, the stuffed rabbits they were promised were SMALL!!! the Goodybags were what you would give out at childs birthday party w/a few pieces of candy in it! the easter basket we were suppose to get///// well I am still looking for mine!! I did see one tho, it was one from the dollar store w/some candy in it, not really sure who got it, I only saw that one??? I have to saw that the Grand Supremes bunny was nice, I bought my DD one last week at K-Mart on sale for 16.99!! go figure... and you know what.. Where was the Easter bunny?He was a no show!!! Again, kids disappointed!! The directors were down right rude when questioned after crowning, telling people to leave the ballroom and lock the door on your way out! HINT... If 90% of the people are mad.. something is VERY wrong!!! This pageant SUCKED! Stay away!!!! Winners were off! Moms were mad!! Breaking crowns and leaving their cheap generic banners on the tables! All I can say is "PITIFUL"!!!! I know that I have left loads off of this but I am sure you get the idea!! What a WASTE OF GOOD HARD EARNED MONEY!! And you thought GD&L was bad!! Well this one takes the cake!! Oh, it was an Easter pageant.. this one was a whole basket full of ROTTEN EGGS!!!!

There is a pageant coming your way. The name is America's National Dream Queen. This pageant "director" has had 3 pageants so far and has not paid any of her winners from any of her pageants so far.

She tells you up to the day of competition that she will pay cash on stage and then at crowning tell you to wait a few months. My daughter and several other children and adults are still waiting for their prize money after a year of waiting and being patient.

This "director" has purchased an intirely new pageant wardrobe for her daughter and has had a few photo pageant photo sessions (Tony Overby and Micheal Butler) as well as entered her daughter in several pageants since then.

She tells me and the many others that she does not have the money to pay any of her winners but she obviously has the money.

This "director" owes so many people all over the US from her last 3 pageants. She has not paid anyone and she intends to pay no one.

She holds a pageant whenever she needs money to purchase new photos, pageant outfits or pay for coaching for her daughter.

Just thought I would let you know since this pageant is coming to Atlanta, GA.

I saw the post on our VA board that people on this GA board were asking about the ANDQ pageant. I entered my daughter in this pageant this year and we were not paid. The director told us the day before the pageant that she was going to pay cash on stage but it would be prorated. My girl has not received her winnings todate. She only won a $500 bond/$250 cash and the director has not paid us. I know another mom who was there and she her girl has not been paid either. I also know two of the pageant moms who took her daughters to their National pageant last year and they each said that their daughters have not been paid either. Since some of you are thinking of going to this pageant I figured I would let you know how it was for us at the mini national. Our girls received the old dirty crowns as stated in one of the posts. We were told there would be judges from modeling agencies and scouts as judges. There was only one judge there and she told me that she was a guest at the hotel who was asked at the last minute if she would give a few moments to judge a beauty pageant.

I would leave my email address so I could talk with you but we still do pageants and I do not want the pageant community to laugh at my daughter or myself for going to this pageant. My daughter does have a title from this pageant but it is not a thing to be glad of since it was this pageant.

This is not a lie it is the truth. I saw the director of this pageant throw a nasty fit at a pageant when one of her winners asked her for their winnings. She has the money but told the person to go F**k off she was never going to get her money. Police were called to calm down the ANDQ director. That shows what a nut case she is.

You are lying about NS cursing at that other pageant mom. I was at that pageant and saw the whole incident from the beginning and there were VERY few people standing around so not many people know the TRUTH. That mom grabbed NS by the arm and also pulled on her purse. She would not let go of NS. She kept pulling on NS's purse saying "give me my money" again and again and low menacing growl. She looked like a psycho. NS never yelled and never cursed at her. She did say "let go of me" many times. This other mom did this in front of NS's children and they were very scared that their mom was being pulled like that. I don't know what the beef was about but there was no excuse for that other mother to scare those children and assault NS. NS chose not to press charges against the other mom and she could have. I spoke to the cops myself since I saw everything and was a witness they interviewed. The cops told me NS could press charges and they would arrest the mom who grabbed her and her purse for assault and attempted robbery but that NS insisted on not pressing charges. I think NS handled it very well. I probably would have hauled off and hit the woman and I definitely would have pressed charges.

should not have grabbed her IN FRONT OF HER CHILDREN, but had it been me and she owed me and my child, I would have confronted her too. It won't be the last time. She should just expect this from those she owes until she pays up.

This happened after crowning at a pageant and everyone wanted to go home. I didn't know the other mother before this incident and I hope I never run into her again. I thought her behavior was outrageous. I only posted because someone who obviously wasn't there was posting lies about how NS handled the situation. I honestly don't know a thing about NS's pageant but I thought it was wrong of someone to post blatant lies about an incident that was so wrong from everyone's point of view who saw it. Everyone who saw it thought that other mom was really out of line and the fact that she did this in front of NS's children and her own child and my child and lots of other people's children is outrageous. She ought to be ashamed of herself. My daughter was very scared and talked about it for weeks afterward. I was deeply offended that this woman thought it was appropriate to assault another pageant mom in front of so many children. Tasteless and classless and trashy. If this woman had a true beef with NS over money she should have sued her. Its a simple thing to do in small claims court. Instead she chose the low class trashy road of assault.

She is in Sunburst. The finals are in May, she will be in the 12-15 month age group. Glitz means stones and frill, right? Can you recommened any other pageants to put her in?

If you want to begin pageant coaching, go to Donna Butts! She is the best pageant coach ever! Her email is dbstrut@aol.com. Your child will do really well with Donna Butts. Donna Butts is also having a model boot camp in April, if you start w/ lessons now you will be able to get in camp. You can learn alot at camp, plus you can get your child new pics @ camp, too that same weekend. Then your child will be ready for Sunburst or your next pageant that you are planning to attend.

(October 19, 2003) � A Virginia man was charged Saturday in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 3-year-old Rochester girl Monday in South Carolina.

Norman Blankenship, 54, of Rocky Mount, Va., was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality, said Lt. Mike Oliver of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

About 5:30 p.m. Monday, Essence Alexander, whose third birthday was only four days earlier, was riding with her family on Interstate 77 in Chester, S.C. Their car was stopped in traffic because of an earlier fatal accident.

The car, which was driven by Essence�s grandmother, Diane Douglas, of 54 Epworth St., was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer allegedly driven by Blankenship. Essence was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Her grandmother; mother, Quiana; and Quiana�s sister, Melissa Douglas, 13, were treated for cuts and bruises.

Essence was properly restrained in a child seat, and the others wore seat belts.

�I was happy. I was relieved,� Quiana Douglas said Saturday after learning of the arrest.

The family was traveling back to Rochester from a trip to Georgia, where Essence, who participated in beauty pageants, had pictures taken, a relative said last week. Her funeral was conducted Saturday at the Pentecostal Power of Deliverance Church on Weyl Street.

The tragedy was the second for the family in four months. On May 16, Essence�s father, Demetrius Alexander, 21, was fatally shot on St. Paul Street. No arrests have been made.

Blankenship was being held without bail in Chester in Essence�s death. A bail hearing is scheduled for Monday and the case will be presented to a grand jury, Oliver said.

South Carolina police said Blankenship is accused of leaving the scene of the crash by driving down an emergency lane.

Blankenship�s employer, M.W. Manufacturing, a maker of windows and doors, noticed damage to the vehicle after Blankenship returned to the headquarters in Virginia, and contacted police. Company officials and other drivers had seen news reports of the fatal crash and suspected that Blankenship�s truck might have been involved.

Early Friday, the South Carolina Highway Patrol sent six officers, including forensic experts, about 220 miles to examine the truck in Rocky Mount, Va. After finding a broken piece of the car in which Essence was riding on the truck, the officers waited for Blankenship to return from another driving assignment.

�We confronted him when he came in and he made a statement,� Oliver said.

Oliver said Blankenship told them he swerved to avoid traffic and realized he hit something, but thought it was a guardrail.

Blankenship agreed to return to Chester with the officers early Saturday. If convicted of leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality, he would face a sentence of one year to 25 years, plus a fine of between $10,000 and $25,000, Oliver said.

The earlier accident that caused the backup involved a construction flagman who was struck and killed by another tractor-trailer. The driver of that truck stopped.

She will NOT pay you on stage, she will NOT give nice prizes unless you consider used,dirty, dusty, hairspray crusted crowns, complete with stray hairs a nice prize. At her Mini National the Grand Supreme received a sash saying Future Scholar not GRAND SUPREME. She continues to pay entry fees to pageants for her daughter. As recently as this past weekend! She has been asked time and time again to pay the winners and asked why she has not paid them. To those she owes money to she says it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and I DONT HAVE THE MONEY. THAT IS BOLOGNA ..YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO KEEP ENTERING PAGEANTS AND TO BUY THE BEST PHOTOS AND NEW OUTFITS THEN YOU SURE DO HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THE WINNERS OF YOUR PAGEANT! YOU JUST REFUSE TO PAY WHAT YOU OWE! YOU HAD THE CASH TO PAY ONE OF YOUR WINNERS THIS WEEKEND AND YOU CAUSED A HUGE SCENE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. THE POLICE WERE CALLED FOR YOUR DISTURBING THE PEACE.

She is planing another pageant in Atlanta,GA DO NOT GIVE THIS WOMAN ANY MONEY. Her name is Naomi Satterwhite. She held her pageants in VA but they caught on to her SCAM and she is advertising in GA.

We are also new to the pageant world, and although reading the message boards and checking out websites has been helpful, I still have a few questions.

I understand the concept of "glitz" -- but what does that mean for the boys categories? do they wear anything other than a standard tux? and what about swimwear and westernwear? I would assume that doesn't mean the cute cowboy costume he wore for Halloween, is it??? HELP!
