When I first read the question I thought the text would be about some other kind of autonomy, different from the one related to language learning acquisition. However, since we are not native speakers it’s always good to read those kind of texts in order to improve ourselves in many ways.
If we consider that in order to acquire a language people should be autonomous, then I can say that I’m autonomous. However, to be an autonomous person, according to David Nunan, people should not only learn a language or something else, but also control and use this learning in their lives. He also defines autonomous as learners which are able to self-determine the direction of their learning; be involved in the management of the learning process and finally be able to choose their activities.
Concerning these three items above, I see myself not 100% autonomous, but maybe 60%, since I can’t choose everything I want to deal with and also I always think I should give more and more of myself. I’m aware that I have to study and read a lot in order to become an autonomous learner. I wish I were those people that learn easily and do not depend on anybody in order to do something. But some day I’ll be autonomous in everything, that’s my objective in life, I’ll strive for it! The feeling of being independent, being able to control and manage your life is just great, and that’s why this year will be different for me. I’ll make a great effort to be more responsible and dedicated. And I will tell you the results!
