Task 14

Vera, I am sorry sending it so late but I have some difficulty in using a computer. The problem is now solved.

After reading the texts about autonomy I am still not sure about how evaluate mine. But I would say that in my life I considered myself as being almost completely autonomous, but concerning to English I am not so independent yet. Considering the definitions I have found to autonomy;

1) the ability to make your own decisions without being influenced by anyone else: the autonomy of the individual (Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English/2000)
2 ) In its general application, autonomy implies a capacity to exercise control over one’s own learning (form the text read)

I would say that I am semi-autonomous if there is such classification. I say that because of some of the characteristics cited in the text such as:

self-determine the overall direction of their learning, (OK, most of the time)

become actively involved in the management of the learning process, (Not really so involved)

exercise freedom of choice in relation to learning resources and activities. (Sometimes we depend of certain circumstances to achieve this)

The good part is that there are still studies in this area as the text presents itself and mostly important it says that "..., researchers within the sociology and psychology of education have argued persuasively that autonomy is beneficial to learning, irrespective of the subject matter." Although you find a second opinion which classify autonomy as being specially directed to second language acquisition, I see the autonomy matter as a process which can be acquired as time pass by, a process which never ends and it is in constantly development, but not necessarily just in second language acquisition.

Now concerning to my degree of autonomy I would classify myself as being quite autonomous if analyzed how much time and effort I spend in learning English, I mean, although I know how important it is to someone to achieve a good autonomy, I can not dedicate myself properly and therefore I still have some deficiency and also some insecurity.
