Subject: Useful Links

Task: Some Useful Links

I guess I am found of Internet now. In other words, I find it really amazing and challenging to start searching something I have no idea of. I mean, like this text, I was asked to search all those links in order to say my opinion about them. I had never heard or seen them before. For that reason, it was tough at the beginning, but then, I got really interested, especially because I saw many useful links there concerning my classes. I know exactly how to vary them now, mainly by using the computer.

For instance, in the site where it helps people to learn English, I could find many outstanding stories, especially stories of the week, of course, including other stories as well. The best story I read was written by a Bolivian girl, whose name I have forgotten at the moment, who wrote about a chilling psycho-terror story. Even though, it was that chilling, I liked to read it. Besides, while I was reading it, I was able to look up my doubts in the dictionary they provided me automatically called http://dictionary.cambridge.org/, where I could find any meaning including its pronunciation, activities or worksheets, such as crosswords. By the way, one of them got my attention and made me spend about fifteen to thirty minutes playing it. To conclude, in the site about learning English, there are also songs, grammar, magazine, cartoons (very funny) and so on.

In order to compare Cambridge’s dictionary, I searched www.pseudodictionary.com/ . I can say it is much more interesting due to the different words they provide and wonderful sites, for example www.thebrainstrust.co.uk/. It gives recent news and reports. It looks like CNN, though. Furthermore, I could even rate the story I read from stupid to hilarious. Or I could send it to my a friend, which means I can read a story and send it to my students weekly in order to be discussed in class or in e-mails, consequently. I really liked this idea! However, the sites about Free Software did not interest me so much because the games have all to be downloaded, at least the ones I tried playing, such as the hangman or the flash cards/ bingo.

The link about concordances truly interested me due to its serious academic discussion. I did learn about how to use them in Literary Studies. At least, I tried my best. Maria Rosario Caballero Rodriguez explained it well. In case someone wants to take a look, go to the web concordance www.dundee.ac.uk/English/ or to an interesting site http://www.Edc.upenn.edu/ . At last, there is a place available for us to search for any kind of concordance and get in response real data, from authentic texts; isn’t that great?

The last link searched was the ones about Images. Fantastic! They are all so cute. I visited many of the clips, like New Year Clip Art, Valentine’s, Easter’s, Mother’s Day Clip Art, etc. The one that I liked most was the Halloween Clip Art because there I could see not only great clips but also toys and songs or whatever they call those weird music. I had fun looking at all those clips. Better late than never! Why am I saying that? I want to make use of all that in my e-mails or cards. I loved them!
