Hi Stef,

thanks for helping me.

Yes its also possible to make a small txt file of the subs but the more accurate way is using the bitmaps. The subs are originally in bitmap format, converting them to text by using OCR can lead to minor mistakes ( eg ' will be shown as " or i will be shown as l ), but in most cases it will work just fine.

Both versions are small, the txt file is about 50 kb , the bitmap version is about 2-4 mb (depending on how much subtitles are on the dvd).

The tool we need for ripping and viewing the subs is called "Vobsub", you can either download them from chip.de ( http://www.chip.de/downloads/c1_downloads_13010237.html ) or from divx-digest ( http://www.divx-digest.com/software/vobsub.html )

I also found 2 Tutorials:

http://german.doom9.org/extern_guides/SubToSup/ifoedit_authoring_mit_subtiteln.htm#schritt4

Only Schritt4 ( 4: Subtitel extrahieren und konvertieren ), in case you dont speak german, i've also got an english tutorial.

http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_ripsubtitles_vobsub.php ( the last step with winrar is not necessary, feel free to skip this step )

Its not necessary to rip the dvd to harddisk, i usually rip them directly from dvd, if vobsub complains with "indexing failed" , just unlock the dvd with your dvd playback program, watching the first few seconds, stop the player but not quit the player. now vobsub shouldnt complain anymore.

If you have specific questions or need additional help, please feel free to ask :)
