In reply to: Newburgher 's message, "Newburgh Free Academy No More???" on Monday, October20, 10:20:pm

Several of the earliest public high schools in the state outside of NYC were named “Free Academies”. These included Corning, Elmira, Newburgh, Rome, and Utica. Off the top of my head, Newburgh and Rome may be the only high schools left using the Free Academy name. This superintendent cannot ride into town and change our high school’s historical name. If she pulls this off, it is time to send her back to NEW Rochelle..
