Let's at least try to live in facts. Mehar has lived in Newburgh for over a decade. Most of the people commenting on this chat have been here for a shorter time. Hell we have had people run for mayor with less time in the City of Newburgh. The truth is Mehar is at least a very active member of the community and always has been. She recognizes what she doesn't know and sits down with people and educates herself. Luna's answer at the debate was no different from anyone else on the panel. They all shared the same belief that county and state police should be supportive not invasive, which is what it has been since the mutual agreement was amended. All of the candidates responded appropriately on this and is in line with both the Chief and the Commissioner's wishes. You don't have to be pro or anti police to want to have control of your jurisdiction. That being said, Luna and Mclymore have the two most public safety focused platforms. The difference is, Mclymore's family held a party that led to a shooting incident at 1am in a community that never had one. While Luna worked with community agencies to address shootings and has done so for years and is a life long Newburgh native. Luna also supports safe staffing for police and fire fighters. Mehar and Luna both support more training for police officers and both believe a greater emphasis should be put on mental health calls, which is in line with national data. They both provide the best options for the city.
