At what point does "supportive" become "invasive"? Who decides that? By what means...mandate, 'emergency declaration', public outcry? It circles back to what is the level of crime tolerated "to have control"? The west end will give a different answer than the south end, heck, as will one end of most streets relative to the other. The issue is the norms of common civility have become subjective, a skewed road to contrived societal conflict that inevitably enables an authoritarian state...for your "safety". But not too authoritarian, "...a greater emphasis should be put on mental health calls". O.k, but ask "how'd we get here?" If answered truthfully, then it's obvious things will get worse before they get better. Point to a politico on any level of government that has a plan and the common support to reduce, at the core, the enablers of crime, the enablers of mental health issues...before the fact. Instead, there is this jugglery of "correct" thoughts between the people and "authority". It results in a bureaucratic lingchi process, conflating the portion of society that lacks an internal locus of control with civility, enacted as "the best option".
