The posh Mohonk Mountain House Resort and Spa will be hosting a group of City of Newburgh officials for three days in April.

The City Council on Monday, March 11 unanimously approved an agreement with Mohonk Mountain House to host the City Council Workshop. The city council is planning a governance and team building workshop to be held from April 19 to April 21.

City Human Resources Director Audra Cox presented the item at the city work session on March 7 with no comments made by council members. The conference is to be held at the Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz. The Mohonk Mountain House, a Victorian castle, was purchased by Albert Smiley in 1869 and has been owned by the Smiley family for six generations.

The contract, available on the city website, states that 10 single rooms are to be booked during two days of stay. A schedule of events shown on the city website shows several meeting periods held over the course of the day with meal periods, but a finalized list of those attending was not made publicly available. City officials had not responded to a request for further information on the conference as of Tuesday afternoon.

According to room rates provided, single occupancy rates per person is $903. The contract continues that “rates are Full American plan rates, which include three meals daily, beginning with dinner on the day of arrival through lunch on the day of departure. Credit is not extended for missed meals.”

Under the section Day Attendees, Day Attendees are charged a rate of $195 ($174.80 tax exempt) per day, which includes meeting attendance, lunch and tax. The number of day attendees is three, per the contract.

Under the anticipated room night and banquet food and beverage revenue figures section, 20 rooms (10 per night) are being held which would cost of $18,060. The agreement also stated that “contracted banquet food and beverage revenue, including day attendees, is $19,108.80.”

Last month, the council also approved a contract with Baker Tilly US, LLP to provide professional and technical consulting services to facilitate the governance and team building workshop in the amount of $24,900.

A scope of services for Baker Tilly US is available online that includes interview periods, designing and facilitating the workshop and finally preparing a report. Each of the agreements with additional documents and charts are available on the City of Newburgh website for public review.
