Still no background on as to why Commissioner Gomerez left. There was supposed to be some light shed on his departure, if not by him, but by our city government. This back and forth, over whether or not to have a commissioner is asanine. Not only did a council member, who is in a supervisory role in law enforcement give his opinion, in why not to have one, the fiscal savvy Mayor says he wants one for diversity. Diversity isn't putting boots on the ground. Too much too heavy management is what's wrong in his NECSD employer. Guess he's trying to take a page out of their management plan. See how the budget went! But back on point, the council is quick to give input on unresearched metrics, what does the city gain from a commissioner? Why not institute the deputy chief spot back on the line, that way administrative duties can be handled by the chief, while day to day goes to the deputy. Same for the FD. This city government has too many layers, chief of staff for the CM, and administrative assistants? Ridiculous. How much does the Chief of staff make? We know the council paid handsomely for the CM, 200k I believe. Fiscal management isn't just on the Comptroller, it starts with the council, thought they'd do the right thing after the Mohonk debacle. Now here's the chance to right an obvious wrong, and the Mayor still wants a commissioner for his own reasons of diversity. Go out and hire a minority chief! But I see the diversity in the department, way more people of color than before. Wish the FD was a little more representative of the community! If the mayor is fixated on diversity, do what NYC, State Police and many other agencies do, and have a drive for diversity hiring, the template is already out there. Councilperson Monteverde wanted some data for the benefits from having a commissioner,
Come off the bluff, and see what's going on in the City. I bet she doesn't even drive through the city. That comment of wanting data on this matter makes her look detached from the workings of the city, how long has she been here? And this city isn't that big, to not quickly find such information out. One last thing, the drug and gun running nextdoor to the courthouse is a goddamn shame, especially how she tauts the city is safer, it's safer due to the partnership of its community law enforcement, feds, county task force. Newburgh can't do it alone, especially being understaffed.
