Subject: Mayor’s Behavior

Last night’s City Council Meeting agenda looked pretty boring, but the meeting itself turned out to be anything but. During the public comments section speaker after speaker voiced their concerns about the IDA (which now has 4 city employees as members) granting 30 year Pilots to developers. The mayor was clearly disturbed by these comments and shook his head no when at least one speaker was voicing her concerns.

Pastor Rosie had brought a box of Kit Kats to the meeting that was being passed around to the audience, council, and management staff. The box ended up in front of the mayor, and she asked him to pass it on, which he could easily have done by sliding it over to Councilman McLymore. Instead he annoyingly said to her you pass it on, I have a meeting to run

At the end of the public comments section, instead of moving to comments from the Council, he launched into a rant, disparaging all of the speakers who voiced concerns about the Pilots. He became more and more animated and louder. Unfortunately, he has exhibited this type of behavior at many meetings over the years. He could clearly benefit from Anger Management.

During the final comments from the Council, Councilman Shakur thanked everyone for coming out, and encouraged more to do so because this is what helps the Council to work on the concerns of the residents. This is clearly not the opinion of the mayor. He only wants to hear those comments that he agrees with, and as we have seen way too many times, can be easily triggered by comments that he disagrees with. His treatment of the public at Council meetings has become intolerable. He needs to apologize, but of course he won’t.
