Unlike Councilman Shakur, who has never had gainful employment, I believe that Councilwoman Stewart has a full time job like many of our most successful councilpersons throughout the years. There may be other workshops that she shows up late, but when she gets there she hits the ground running. She had a few missteps during the meeting last night, but she is always going to do her homework and ask appropriate questions for a full understanding of what is on the agenda and is being discussed. Mr. Venning, as usual, did a great job of conducting the meeting. There was one point though that I believe he was being disingenuous. He stated that he was unaware of complaints from Kenney residents until December of 2025. That may be true, but it has been stated that the owner of the Kenney’s has not had a rental certificate since March of 2025. You don’t need to have complaints from residents if your own code compliance staff advised you of the fact that the owners of the Kenney Apartments were renting 120 units without a valid rental certificate.
