Subject: 2023 City Elections

Fasten your seat belts, the crazy season has begun. In November the voters will select a mayor and the two council at large seats now occupied by Councilpersons Grice and Shakur. As far as I know, Mayor Harvey is the only announced candidate for Mayor at this time. Councilman Grice, regrettably, has decided not to seek Re-election, but Councilman Shakur has announced that he will.

According to this week’s Mid-Hudson Times, six other candidates have announced their intentions to run for the Council at large seats. One candidate of note, is Pastor RD McLymore. Two of the others are a failed politician in both Beacon and Newburgh, and the worst one term councilperson in the history of the City Council. The other three candidates are mostly unknowns. Is one of them worthy of being elected? Will any other candidates announce? I thought I had heard that NAACP Chair Ray Harvey was going to run for Council, but the MHT does not mention him as a candidate. At any rate, one Harvey sitting on the Council is quite enough. Stay tuned.
