Subject: Weak Useless City Council

Todd Venning was hired as City Manager because he threatened to quit if he didn't get the job. His predecessor quietly acquiesced. He also threatened he wouldn't take the job unless the position came with a much higher salary. Now the City Council has extended an exception for the requirement for living in the city by a year. What is the City Council's purpose then? They proved to be weak in Venning's original demands. They proved to be weak when they approved their own raise and disemboweled the charter by giving the mayor an even larger one. They have zero ability to negotiate. As usual the City of Newburgh is a victim not only to its reputation but to its choice of leadership and its continued failure to do the bare minimum.
