Author: Lady Kathryn and Fire Cry
Subject: ~The Light~

The winged brute landed before the cave and let down those he carried. Mask was grim as he stared into the mouth of the cave. Death could be waiting within. But he then thought of the child and the mother's urge to free her. He thought of his own daughter, how he wished her free from the dark! The ivory brute shook his glorious head and pawed the earth.

"Steady, my friend." Soothed the Lady to the steed as her feet touched the ground. The smell of death fanned out from the dark depth. Something or someone smelled as if it was rotting. Her features were also grim as she stepped up beside the steed's head and stroked his cheek fondly. Gathering strength, and trying to slow the fast pace of her heart, she turned to address the fairy. "I promise nothing. Fire Cry and I shall distract the serpent, slay him if we can. You must find the bell. It lays in one of the many caverns below the earth. The child shall be safe out here. Once you find it," She removed something from the hilt of her sword. It was a horn. "Sound this and we shall protect your retreat. And then..." She smiled feebly at the child, "Set her free. Good luck to you. We mustn't speak as we enter the cave." Her sword lit with a violet flame. Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside the darkness.
