That is a valid question - and drill is not what we are talking about. The Division HQ guard (Provost) companies were selected for their excellent military bearing and appearance, proficiency at drill and fighting record. In short, only the best units were considered. That is why the Ground Hornets/CHAPs/Lazy Jacks got the job.

As Danny says, you are the Guard for the boss and his HQ, and will function as such. You will be assisting the Provost as the Provost Guard, along with some of the cavalry escort. You may have prisoners to deal with, both ours and theirs. You may have (or get to as Ox might say) to deal with enforcing uniform regulations, though I would be surprised if it comes to that as everyone is pretty sensitized already. You may have to confront a gate crasher or two (walk-ons who don't care about rules and regs).

Since you ain't coming 1000's of miles to stand around the general during the battles, count on falling in with the Mississippi Valley Brigade during the scenarios (same as at Franklin). Lots of skirmish and such Fri and Sat, pitching in against the battery with Fred Yokubaitis and the 2nd Texas on Sunday.

What you won't be doing as Danny details is picket or grand guard. You will be doing some camp guard around the Div HQ and such.

The food will better, impressions mostly 1st person all weekend (the Gen is a stickler for that).

As long as somebody keeps an eye (or two) on Critell and gives Yearby plenty to do, it should be one heck of a weekend.

The bad news - you guys will have to enforce the "don't go near the Corinth School for Young Women" order...

Good news: we have never done anything like this...in fact, nobody ever does. Should be a kick. And with the Texas Iron Man and the Proper British Officer in charge, how can we lose?
