Thanks Tom!

I tell ya what comrades, this site blew me away. My main thoughts as I tramped the whole deal was that of a soldier in the ranks and the company and regimental officers who will lead them...skirmishing through large fields divided by woodlines with no idea what lays beyond. Crossing creeks and bypassing a pond or two, down dirt lanes with nary a modern anything in view. It is a very impressive place. Nothing has changed in 143 years - as evidenced by the original trenches in the woods...the one's you may be laying your ground sheet and blanket next to or tieing off that tent fly.

The Battery being constructed for the feds by Don Erickson is so far beyond the usual trench with dirt thrown up in front that it looks like a permanent addition to the area. Actually there will be two batteries, Williams and Robinette/Powell, built with connecting works plus abatis as were dumped in front (a mass of downed trees).

The campsites are in the woods mostly for CS and located mostly behind the works for US as per the real deal. One of the federal brigades will be located at an outpost (remote site) a mile or more away in more woods for a portion of the event near the Iuka battle site - as per Stanley's Division movement at the real deal they will move to support the defense of the Corinth batteries.

Mike Moore has thought of almost everything and we are all busy perfecting the scenarios and logistics details.

Another thing you will see here is continuous activity, be it picket, skirmish, movement, scouting and screening and general "army stuff" - not just battle, rest, go to the vendors, battle, etc.

In addition we are going to continue and expand the realistic disposition of casualties and prisoners begun at Franklin. Everyone will have a fate, known only to himself. This will enable the effect of removing men from the ranks of the survivors and will exercise the medical and provost units in response. Casualties will spend overnite in the hands of the enemy or with the surgeons or grave diggers, returning to their units in the morning. No blowing taps and everyone stands back up at the end of the battle. The overnite requirement will not be mandatory but we hope everyone will take advantage of what was a huge success among the Red River Battalion at Franklin. The use of fates WILL be mandatory - the best means to ensure we don't have massive suicide charges and no hits until the last 15 minutes of the event. Info on fates will be provided to all units.

Even the static guns (no horses) that would normally need to be moved into position by vehicles will instead be placed where or close to where they will be needed beforehand, but to you and I they will appear to be haystacks until they are needed.

The size of the area will allow realistic skirmish lines far ahead of the main body, realistic firing distances in the hundreds of yards, belts of woods that screen camps from other camps and give boundary to the fields giving the illusion that that there are more troops in line (trust me on this one). The cav will have a great time - lots of riding and skirmish room. They will be busy.

In short, its time to step up and support Mike Moore and his vision for better national events. Some great folks are lining up to help and participants are coming from England to California, Seattle to Florida. One of the engineers building the batteries was in Northern Alaska 3 weeks ago. If that isn't motivation, I don't know what it looks like.
