Gentlemen, just wanted to add my own thanks for a truly memorable time with the 7th company. John Egglestone summed it up afterwards when he said 'you feel like you have known the boys all your life'.

Two fantastic highlights for me: 1/ The second night camping with several hundred others in an unknown place with tens of fires lighting the night sky (just like the diarys). 2/ Of course being chosen to help get the horse drawn artillery up the hill - fantastic.

As a postcript, I spent the next few days visiting and walking many miles of battle sites (all Cleburne ones obviously) one of them was Springhill. I am sure there might be others that didn't realise it at the time (as it was dark) but the second night when we deployed from column into line, was actually on the same field as Cleburne's Division did at Springhill (all but 90 degrees out initially). We then followed the same route as the division and if I got my calculations and history right, we camped on the same site as the boys did the night before Hood's massacre of Franklin. Anyone who can correct me or confirm would be much appreciated.

Fred, fantastic job as sergeant and first rate impression especially when we ended up POW's (and the jacket is just first-rate). Captain, keep practising those new English words in the ranks(Pikey Bollocks).

Sorry to go on but it truly was a memorable experience and such wonderful company - see you all next year.

Oh, and your Sergeant Major is the scariest man we have ever seen!

Keith 'Slacky' Jackman.
