Subject: Re: Original uniform for the 6th/15th TX at Franklin?
In reply to: Doug Cooper 's message, "Re: Original uniform for the 6th/15th TX at Franklin?" on 06/ 2/04 3:17:07pm

The 10th Texas asked Gen'l Granbury shortly after his appointement to be a seperate reg't. It apeared they were broken up and they were not serving under their own elected officers.
Gen'l Granbury consented and they bcame a seperate reg't after that.
If the Lazy Jacks need ammo let me know how much? We sell Arsenal packs with the San Antonio Aresenal (of course we could always change the labels). Also how many 42's verus 58's for the correct charge.
Someone mentioned Jeff Davis visit to the troops. According to the book Company Atch, they cried "Give us food, give us food" as he passed by.
As far as what clothing to wear the 9th Texas board has some nice authenticty guides. Id suggest you ganger at them.
I think a mix of captured equipment and southern depot would be nice. HOWEVER, there should be no federal pants. Its over pet peeve to see all them funny blue pants.
As far as knapsacks I think Mex war and english imports wouldbe the best choice, and prehaps a few single and federal doubles.
I agree with Doug though about being the ragged ass rebs, they had marched and fought a few battles, so there might have been just a couple of holes and such.

Dusty
On 6thtx.org there is a short history of the reg't which may help some.
