Many thoughts come to mind. The horror stories of northern prison life. The coutless men who died enroute to prison. The men who attempted to surrender and killed regardless.
The 6th Texas was captured at Arkansas Post in the trenches. They were fighting in light clothing. When they surrender they were promised they would be allowed to go back to their barracks and retrive their winter clothing and blankets before departing for Camp Douglas. They were not allowed to do so and loaded on the decks of steamboats for the journey northward. Men died of exposure and many got frostbite. I wonder if this might have been a player for the men of the the 6th Texas?
Also the Victorian mindset, the shame of surrendering to an enemy when you have the will to resist the invaders of your homeland?
Now as far as Danny as a prisoner goes two things, can he dig sinks in frozen earth and second will shirt swapping be a requirement?
I suppose being captured will thin our lines as required for the Franklin battles but do the men really want to sit on their butts for the remainder of the weekend?

I Remain Yos......Dusty
