Fred - this is a fabulous idea...and for Danny and I as officers, a particularly tough choice. This introduces a train of thought into firper for this event every soldier probably thought about during those tense moments just before the battle.

1. Do I surrender or die fighting, even if there is no hope? Or do I run away to avoid both?

2. If captured, do I take the oath and avoid prison? There was plenty of feedback on the Cold Island of Camp Douglas.

3. What do I know about treatment at the hands of the troops behind those works? How do we treat them? If bad, will they shoot me even if I try to surrender?

This just gets better...
