The answer to this is simple: Your students should have the pieces prepared before the week of the concert. If the teacher has properly planned and scheduled all of the rehearsals, there should be no doubt that the ensemble will be ready. I believe one of the hardest parts about what we do is just timing. You want your students to feel well prepared for a concert, but you don't want them to be over-prepared. That is, you don't want their "peak of preparation" to come two weeks before the scheduled concert because then they will lose momentum. In those two weeks, much can be lost. Timing is everything. My answer to your question is that if the teacher is well prepared, this situation won't come about. :)

I also agree with Nickie that if the teacher has used rehersal time efficiently the songs will be prepared. At my high school we used music, but if you dont agree with using music maybe on that certain song you could use music. It is really embarassing to cut songs from a program, and maybe you should let the students perform the song and become embarresed so they will work harder the next time.
