I think that keyboarding should be taught, however, going off Ashley's gym example...keyboarding would be an invalid topic. Students in gym class who have no enthusiasm for it will never retain or practice the sport of football or basketball...
The same goes with music... those with no enthusiasm will not practice their songs or take to the time to realize what it really is. They will just be there and leave.
In this case, I think that we need to look at which is more important... learning how to play a keyboard instrument, or just getting students acquainted with the idea of using their voice. I think that it would be a wise investment to learn earlier in a students career, however, I do not think that many students would take it. It might just be better to offer it as an extra activity.
