To me, teaching is like learning... you can never truly stop. It does not matter if you are teaching in a public school, or if you are a retired 500 year old... people can still learn something from you.

I do think there is a time when someone should retire from teaching. But it shouldn't be measured in years of teaching. My high school teacher who had 29 years of teaching my senior year of high school was retiring. Everyone could definitely tell he was ready to retire. He was no fun to be around, always grouchy, and just didn't teach anymore. He would just show up to get his paycheck...A person should retire when it isn't fun for them anymore and when they feel they can not fully do their job or give the students the teaching they deserve. As for me, I plan to teach till the day I day, or when they force me into retirement! =]
