Hey. Nobody seems to be responding to the forum. I was really hoping for this to work. It's going to be like study group thingy.

Anyway, Monica, I'm trying to answer Qn 3. hope it's right.

Rocks which allow water to pass through are permeable. There are 2 types of permeable rock, namely the porous, e.g sandstones and chalk, which contains many pores that can store water and pervious, e.g carboniferous limestone which allow water to flow along its joints.

As these types of rocks allow rapid infiltration, there is little surface runoff leading to limited surface streams. (most of the water had gone underground to join their friends at the watertable, hee i guess).

In contrast, the impermeable rocks like granite do not allow water to pass through them and so they produce more surface runoff and thus more streams.

As for question 1, I know only a little bit. That is, lithology refers to the physical characteristics of rock. I guess homogeneous will mean that this rock has got the same characteristics throughout. As in the same type of bedding planes, joints and compound? sorry, really not sure. Someone please help.

As for question 2. interesting. I want to know more about it too.

Dr. Chatterjea, please verify what I mentioned above. Also, I have some questions posted which are yet to be answered by anybody? boo-hoo-hoo...
