Read "Process and Form in Geomorphology", edited by D.R. Stoddart, 1997: NIE Library Call no. GB401.5 Pro: Chapter 2: Don't get too worried if you don't understand everything. But it should set you thinking in the right direction.

Also Read "Geomorphology" by Arthur Bloom: check the call no. in WEBOPAC: we have it in the Library. You should see the chapter on Evolution of fluvial system.
