*A jagged slash down her side bleeds profusely and her chest was raw and pulsing blood. An ugly wound marrs her beautiful face and she looks defeated and worn. Her foal never faultered in following her, and he looked unharmed, but frightened. Together, they dash into a vacant stall and the mare stands protectively in front of the foal, who is hiding in the corner. The mare's sides heave in exhaustion and she struggles to remain standing...*
