My favourite scary film has to be Silence of the lambs its an awesome film.
Loved the original Nightmare on elm street when it first came out.
I think the films that scared me the most when I was young was the 1981 version of My bloody valentine, It's Alive from 1974 and City of the living dead from 1980,
The fact that I was 10 when I watched them probably explains why I found them so scary lol, I watched Texas chain saw massacre around the same time and found it good but amusing.
