EXT – ROAD – NIGHT
Alice, Dee and Ben are all in the car along with their friend Alex. They slow down at the side of the road as a young woman hollers then down
ALICE
What the…
BEN
Hang on
He pulls over to her – it’s Marcelle.
MARCELLE
(crying)
I’ve hurt my ankle! I just got chased through the woods by some guy!
BEN
Are you okay?
MARCELLE
Can you give me a ride?
Ben gives an unsure look before gesturing her in
BEN
Where to?
MARCELLE
I’ll guide you
Ben starts driving off.
They’ve been driving for about five minutes now as Ben goes to take a turning towards the main town area
MARCELLE
No!
BEN
What’s wrong?
MARCELLE
Go this way
BEN
That way’s quicker
MARCELLE
But that’s where he was…
BEN
He won’t be there now
MARCELLE
You can’t be sure
Ben rolls his eyes and continues – driving straight past the entrance to the road, from which Celeste is staring in rage
CELESTE
That bitch ruins everything
CUT TO.
EXT – STREET – NIGHT
Ben pulls the car up as Marcelle limps out
MARCELLE
Thank you so much
BEN
Don’t mention it
Ben pulls out and checks his mirror for cars – the road and sidewalk are completely empty.
CUT TO.
EXT – BENS HOUSE – NIGHT
Faith and Spike are knocking at the door for ages – staring up at the room, Faith briefly sees the outline of Marcelle.
FAITH
We need to get up there
SPIKE
Faith…the doors open
FAITH
Let’s dance
They step into the house, both freezing upon spotting Ben’s dad
SPIKE
Err…Hi we’re from…
Spike waves his hand in front of his face. Nothing.
SPIKE
On with it then
Faith runs up stairs and into Ben’s room.
FAITH
She was just in here
SPIKE
Who’s that then?
FAITH
One of the twins
SPIKE
Faith what are we doing here?
FAITH
Call it a hunch. This Ben guy is their brother – the omen child. Finally he’s driving…
SPIKE
I’m so proud
FAITH
That guy in the store said his daughter and all the other kids were heading to the New Years party tonight. You have to pass the bridge to get back here – everywhere else is one way
SPIKE
You reckon they’re gonna go for him?
FAITH
I know it
CUT TO.
INT – DANCE – NIGHT
Ben walks over to the punch bowl where he sees Celeste.
CELESTE
Hey
BEN
Um, hey
CELESTE
Wanna dance?
BEN
I’m here with a friend
CELESTE
That friend?
Celeste points out that Alice is kissing another guy – Alex.
BEN
Right…maybe not then
CELESTE
So is that a yes to the dance?
BEN
Sure
CUT TO.
INT – BENS ROOM – NIGHT
Faith looks up as she sees another light, the attack door swings open
SPIKE
Weird.
The two of them climb in as Faith stops before she’s even back on her feet – it’s a girls bedroom. Marcelle is sat on the bed
FAITH
Hey
MARCELLE
Hey
SPIKE
Bloody hell!
MARCELLE
You act like you’ve never seen a ghost Spike
SPIKE
Erm…
MARCELLE
Oh, I was going through your wallet when you took a pee – Faith didn’t see me, but she saw you.
FAITH
Thanks
MARCELLE
I take it you know what’s going on seeing as you’re the first two people I’ve tried to clue up that didn’t have a heart attack
FAITH
We’ve got the jist. Why are you trying to kill your brother?
MARCELLE
Hey I may be the bad girl, but I have the good morals. Celeste is the one who flew over the cuckoo’s nest
SPIKE
Where is she?
MARCELLE
She’s our and half feet away from the stage at the dance – it’s a twin thing. We were actually born as two halves of a whole. Same mind, different hearts – I know every move she’s going to make.
FAITH
Which mean’s she knows you’re with us?
MARCELLE
She usually ignores what I’m thinking but she’ll be listening to this – I just want this to end. We died, it sucks but I should be forty one by now, not reliving 21 over and over again.
(quiet)
I just want to rest.
SPIKE
And you can’t do that as long as she keeps punishing people
MARCELLE
She never could take responsibility for her actions. Mom went insane because she kept coming in to read to her at night while Dad was drinking.
(beat)
She convinced Mom that Ben was born of the devil and Dad knew that’s why he froze up – she went crazy after she told the family and the convinced her she’d lost it.
SPIKE
You must be dead proud of that sister of yours
MARCELLE
I love her as a sister. As a person she’s annoying extra organ I’m never going to need.
FAITH
So that’s the deal? You rest – she’s rested
MARCELLE
Vice versa too – we died so close together but she was gone first. She got to choose whether we settled or stayed – we stayed.
FAITH
I have an idea which you won’t like
Faith pulls out her phone
MARCELLE
I agree
SPIKE
You psychic too?
MARCELLE
No but, um, I planted the idea in her head subliminally.
SPIKE
Who are you calling?
FAITH
Hey, Willow – it’s Faith
CUT TO.
EXT – ROADSIDE – NIGHT
Ben comes driving up the road he now only has Celeste in his car.
CELESTE
Go this way it’s faster
BEN
I got told there was some crazy ass killer down here
CELESTE
What you think he’s gonna get you while you’re moving?
Ben grins and turns off down the road as Celeste turns the music up full blast
Further down the road…
Faith, Spike and Marcelle are stood by the edge of the road
MARCELLE
I can’t believe I’m doing this
FAITH
I just hope it works – if we kill Ben doing this then
MARCELLE
Then you’ve saved a car full of people every other year
SPIKE
Happy New Year ladies
Ben’s car comes skidding down the road as music blares out
CELESTE
Happy new year!!!!
BEN
Calm down!
Celeste holds her stomach as she feels something go through her – her veins heighten.
Outside…
Marcelle holds her chest
MARCELLE
I’m alive!
SPIKE
You both are
FAITH
I’m sorry
MARCELLE
I know what I have to do
Marcelle steps out in front of the car – Ben slams his breaks as it goes through the air Marcelle pulls out a gun and holds it by her head. Faith and Spike both pull their faces away as the trigger goes – seconds later when the body hits the ground, the car hits the water.
END OF PART FOUR
INT – HOSPITAL – DAY
Faith and Spike are in the hospital as Ben’s Father arrives – sober
BENS DAD
Are you the man that pulled my son out of the car?
SPIKE
Yeah, him is me
BENS DAD
Thank you! Thank you so much! I don’t know what I’d do if I lost another child
He rushes to his side and takes his hand as his Mother comes in with a stranger look on her face
BENS DAD
Evelyn? What…
EVELYN
That night back in November…the girls birthday…
(chokes)
They said it’s almost impossible for a woman of fifty six but…
BENS DAD
What’s wrong?
EVELYN
I’m pregnant!
Ben’s dad takes a moment before grinning
EVELYN
…with twins!
Faith and Spike smile at each other before starting to walk out
SPIKE
Guess she chose her fate then
FAITH
Guess she did
SPIKE
So – where to now?
FAITH
I figured we were heading to Boston?
SPIKE
Right, home sweet home hey?
FAITH
Like you wouldn’t believe
CUT TO.
EXT - ROADSIDE - NIGHT
The parents are driving back along that road as the mother gasps in shock - Celeste waves at her
*FLASH TO WHITE*
Celeste and Ben are skid off the road - she hits her head hard and dies just as the trigger is pulled on Marcelle's gun.
FADE TO BLACK
NEWS REPORTER (V.O)
Two bodies were found dead in a local lake this morning...
END.
