Oh really, that's why? Did you think about this before you put foot in mouth? Who is this, I wouldn't want to put my name either, it's ok.
Entry fees for Opens are more then entry fees for club events which means more money, I get that. But, the same can be said for having more members too. The more members we have, then the more money from memberships. Does this make sense to you? Opens may be good for opportunities for nonmembers to fish, but that is also an opportunity for the club members to meet nonmembers and possibly have some of those nonmemebers become new members. But, that is impossible when there is just a couple club members at an Open because no one from the club wants to fish there. This also doesn't look good on the club's part either. If we have declining club memberships, then eventually the club will be over. So shouldn't this be somewhat of a priority too?
It's simple, if we were a larger club that was wasn't struggling to get boats at a tournament, then this wouldn't be a big deal. But, if we only have 2 or 3 club boats at the Open, and 5 or 6 club boats at the club event, and few club boats not fishing at all, then why even have the club event that day? It makes no sense to travel to Rock River for maybe 5 or 6 boats to show up. By the time you pay for gas in the tow vehicle, gas in the boat, pay entry fee, etc, it would have been cheaper to just pay the entry fee for Rock River and stay home.
So with that being said, if the reason for this is only to up the money for the classic like you say, then wouldn't it make more sense to have both tournaments, but on different days??? That way if guys wanted to fish both they could, or just fish one or the other, they could????
CURRENT OPTION:
$$$$$$$= (Open $$$/0.5 Day) + (Club event $$$$/0.5 Day)
-If one would want to fish the Open and Rock River, well tough shit because they are on the same day, results in one less opportunity to add money to the pot for each and every club member. Not to mention, if these are on the same day, and knowing that some club guys will choose to fish the Open rather than Rock River, then it isn't even worth it for those who want to fish Rock River to go because even if you win, you probably still will lose money with the expense of just going out there.
Better Option:
$$$$$$$= (Open $$$$/1 Day) + (Club event $$$$/1 Day)
-Each tournament hosted on different days gives every member the opportunity to fish both tournaments if they so choose. If one has more opportunities to fish, then this results in more opportunities for money in the pot. With more opportunities to fish, means more opportunities for boats to be at both events. If more opportunities to fish means mean opportunities for boats to be at each event, then it is also true that there is more opportunities for more money to be added to the classic pot.
Do the math smart guy, pretty sure this would put more money in the classic pot by having the opportunity to fish both tournaments, if that is what you are thinking....
Even if you didn't want to fish the Open, at least you aren't taking away from the club event which I thought was expected for all members to be at. Looks like we have exceptions now. Where's the priority at for this club, hosting an Open at the expense of those club member's who decided to fish the club event? Those members are the one's who will be losing here, and I personally don't like the fact that this is the situation at hand. This is how you can lose club members.
Not trying to bring out the FISTACUFFS over this.....I just think there has to be a more logical way to do this.
